Exceptional quality suite Beautfiul furnishings Impeccable front desk and staff service Not as close to the inner harbor as advertised
My overall experience was okay but the parking was confusing. I would've liked for my parking to be free for staying with the hotel, especially because the rooms are pricy. I stayed at the Embassy in Philly and for $50 more I had a balcony, an extra bed and a larger living room area. I think this place is only valuable because of the location. I was able to walk to the lounge my boyfriend and I went to so that was great, was only seven minutes from our destination. There's not many late night food options though, we ended up driving to IHOP around 1 a.m. and it was a 20 minute drive.
Staff was accommodating, polite, professional. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.
Gave us the wrong room but charged us for the other one. Terrible customer service!
Great breakfast, close proximity to the inner harbor AC didn't work very well, and the tv in the room was strangely placed where you couldn't watch it from the couch or bed
Good breakfast, suites are spacious and not that expensive.
I've been to a few Embassy Suites, I enjoy a few drinks, best bar staff and cocktail offering I've experience at an ES. I never made it to the breakfast. I didn't want to spoil my appetite for the nearby Vietnamese food, it was sooooo good. The snacks at the manager's reception were disappointing. Couldn't adjust the temperature in the room. There wasn't a fan in the bathroom... All minor stuff really, would definitely stay there again.
Complimentary drinks, great breakfast, staff was excellent People smoking outside the door, is disgusting
Stay was FAB - U - LOUS! I had read other reviews and would agree. Clean, spacious rooms. Cable plus. nice towels. Food from restaurant was good. Polite, speedy check-in and out. Gym was current. Slept so good, I missed the breakfast. I heard it was great too. Only suggestion, would be wifi included.
The bed, the kitchenette, the temperature control, the quiet; the breakfast buffet, the staff.
It was a great hotel with an interesting history. It was in a good location within easy walking distance to waterfront destinations, the convention center and the subway is across/down the street too. The bathroom and hotel room was really spacious. We would stay there again. Really the only thing my husband and I didn't like was that the shower doesn't have a door only a partial glass wall, but it was no big deal.
I liked the location. I had booked a deluxe king room and prepaid. When I arrived I was told that there were no more deluxe king rooms available and the only room available had two beds and bunk beds. Confused I showed the gentleman behind the desk my conformation with room type and he told me that there was no guarantee on room type. He was rude and said thats all they had and if I didn't want it I could stay somewhere else. When I got into the room, there was an entire wall with a dog mural staring at me. The room wasn't clean, carpet dirty, hair in sink, then I walked into the bedroom and it is the strangest decor I have ever seen. Hip doesn't mean nothing matches and the most unattractive color palate ever! The furniture was visibly beat up, scratched and marks all over. The wall had multiple black marks all over and the toilet was running. I put my things down and headed to the front desk before leaving for dinner to advise them of the running toilet. Upon my return 2 hours later, as I opened the door to my room and the toilet was still running and I went to call the desk. My room was facing the the windows of other hotel rooms and I found myself rushing to close the curtains because a man across the way was watching me and being "self serving" - not the hotels fault, I know, but very creepy none the less. I wet down to the desk to ask about my toilet and the new gentleman at the desk said he had no record of my earlier complaint and there was no one from engineering to be able to fix it. I asked for another room and he said there weren't any, so I went upstairs and promptly checked out at 12:30 am, off to find another hotel. I asked not to be charged, but since I had prepaid, he said there was nothing he could do.
The staff were great - so friendly and helpful. The hotel room was clean and beautiful, and very unique. Awesome shower, and overall we loved it.
Classy building built in 1906. Rooms nicely appointed. Top notch service and friendly and helpful staff. Closet doors stuck. In-room safe didn't work. DIYers would not feel too comfortable here.
I was attending a conference for most of the trip, and my partner also joined to check out local sites. It was a decent location within walking distance to a number of good restaurants and museums. The room was somewhat small and the floor appeared to not have been vacuumed in a while (as noted by the dozens of small beads that were from a bracelet of a former inhabitant). I find the sliding bathroom door to be somewhat unusual since it didn't allow for privacy in the slightest. Lastly, we had to go to the front desk once a day to get the room key cards re-magnetized, so that we could enter the elevator to the room and our room.
Clean, rooms are huge, bathroom was great, so many both towels! It's still Baltimore... You can walk to 7/11 but still be mindful of where you are at.
Location and staff were very friendly and gave recommendations for local restaurants. Our room keys for some reason kept giving errors, they would alternate so we would have at least one working key at any given time. So the staff was very used to seeing us.
Everything!! No problems.
Very helpful staff, great, clean and cozy room. We appreciated the rollaway, which was really far beyond the cot-like thing we had sort of expected (we added another person to the room after making the reservation, so knew it would be tight). We really appreciated the help with that and with extra toothpaste/brush. Thankful that quality is always high across any Kimpton hotels I've stayed at. It seemed like it would have been helpful if there were more staff on-hand at peak times for check-in, etc. Staff was great and helpful, but having worked at a front desk, this one seemed like it could have benefited from a few more people.
The staff was really nice. Not a big deal but there wasn't a remote control in the room. We had to call for one which was brought up fairly quickly.
The free coffee in the morning and yoga mat in the room. Had to request coffee in the room. I wish you could do that when you book the place so it's there when you check in.
the staff was fabulous!!!he room was great exceptfor the lighting. There was a great chair to read in but no lamp there.Te room was too dark.Other than that, it was great.
Location Molded refrigerator on the inside and out was brought to our room. Took pictures pretty bad.
Warm and friendly staff, clean and comfy rooms and quiet. We will definitely be returning. :)
Location. Nice rooms! The breakfast
Cute hotel Good price Good location Good price for parking
The location was excellent. The room was poorly cooled, the television didn't work, the bathroom sink drain was broken, the television remote control didn't work when the television did, the breakfast was mostly very poor quality and the towels might as well have been paper.
I really liked this hotel and want to visit again. The rooms were nice, decor was tasteful, and in room amenities quality. I booked the room last minute for a one night stay, but intend to return. Menu and cocktails at the hotel restaurant (Poets) were delightful. the front desk staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. The service at Poets was very slow, it appeared there was only one server on that shift, and he was overwhelmed, but the delays were unacceptable. I was also surprised that the hotel does not appear to offer express check out through the TV. I haven't checked out in person from a hotel in years unless there was a problem. However, this was definitely mitigated by very attentive front desk staff -- checkout was a breeze.
A nice, comfortable room in a great part of the city. Friendly staff and trendy decor. I'm not sure why anyone would put a sliding door on a bathroom.
It was comfortable there--a large bed and a large desk which are what I needed the most there. Both of the bedside lamps were not working, and the standing lamp was a little bit broken but still working. One of the two charging plugs was not working.
The location was awesome and they have a great breakfast! Facilities are just okay, but good for the price.
Staff was nice. Internet was useless. Needed it for work and it wouldn't work
The Mount Vernon boasts a great location; clean, comfortable (but nothing too luxurious) rooms; a very helpful staff; and a free breakfast every morning-- all at a terrific value for how close it gets you to Inner Harbor and all that downtown Baltimore has to offer. This is not the perfect hotel, but it can't be beat for the value! There are a number of problems to consider when booking at the Mount Vernon. Parking is difficult, especially if you arrive late (our drive to Baltimore got us in after 3); there is a parking garage across the street, but it is closed overnight; and there is an open-air parking lot two blocks away. Parking is fairly inexpensive in these lots, but some travelers may not be comfortable with these options. Accommodations are also sparse; the rooms are comfortable, but not big, and there were small problems for the staff to remedy. For example, the hair dryer in our room was broken and seemed unsafe for use. Lastly, the free breakfast that is offered is not that good. They provide coffee, tea, juices, cereal, yogurt, breakfast breads, and some hot options, like eggs, grits, and hash browns. The hot options were not always available on time, and were uniformly underwhelming. But, it is free, which makes it more difficult to complain.
I liked the location and the service was excellent. The price was good and the breakfast was a nice buffet. The room was also very clean. The "temperature controled" room is a FARCE! It is on a mass controlled system for the entire building which means the building is either set to a/c or to heat. It was over 80 degrees in our room each night NO MATTER how we set the tempterature because it only controls the blower (low, medium, high) but doesn't control the type of air that comes out. TERRIBLE in the Spring when temperatures fluctuate! Also, I completely believe that this hotel is used a back up for a shelter or for a some sort of government housing or possibly a place domestic abuse families. It was full of people who were obviously NOT tourists and in volitile relationships. The first night, it was almost empty on our floor, but then a flood of people came in the next day and that night, people were screaming at each other and a corner of rooms were obviously smoking weed. People were up until 3 am in the hallways carrying on conversations. Also, the Mount Vernon area is not the most ideal area -- I would suggest staying in Fells Point if you don't want to stay in the Inner Harbor or to stay IN the Inner Harbor instead of Mount Vernon.
The bed The view and cramped hallways
Pretty dumpy but for the price it is understandable. Everything was working in our room but the beds weren't very comfortable. Some makeup stains on the towels and it was located in a sketchy part of Baltimore.
No elevator service for my whole 4 days' stay and I stay on the 5th floor No new towel for 3 days The TV remote control is not working and the front desk promised to fixed it but it never return No battery in the thermostat and battery is not available in front desk One card key prepared for two customers None smoking room but cigarette butt on stairwell Strong ammonia smell in stairwell etc
For the price, the place was clean enough, close walk to the harbor and fine for a few night stay The facilities weren't great, particularly the hot water was lukewarm at best
Nothing Elevator didn't work you had to take the stairs, sheets on bed had stains on it, window looked out onto a brick wall approx 6 inches away, alarm on door went off every 20 seconds. The guy at the desk was nice he refunded our money and told us he didn't blame us for leaving
The hotel and rooms were clean. Very close to all major downtown Baltimore venues including the Convention Center, Aquarium, Inner Harbor, etc. Rooms are small. Location is a little rough. Travel with a group for safety.
The beds were comfortable, but also had no Comforters. The rope light flickering mood wall was cool to look at since a previous guest had smashed the TV and it didn't even turn on. The sink didn't drain, there was no climate control whatsoever (there was a programmable thermostat in the room, but I don't think it was attached to anything) so, would advise against staying here late may- early October unless you like sleeping in extreme heat. TV was 100% broken, but luckily the wifi worked so I could watch Internet TV. Staff did 0 to change anything. I'm really surprised Best Western has their name on this place. As a traveller with low standards this place has exceeded them. Don't ignore the reviews like I did. Or you too will end up brushing your teeth in the bath tub.
Staff was fantastic for all that my group put them through (we needed several extra blankets and towels, realizing this in two trips). Room was quiet, but only suitable for one adult. Staff was also kind enough to call a cab for us when we were running late so the cab could meet us when we got to the lobby; this ended up making all the difference in the world. Room was VERY small, there were small blood stains on the sheets and one of the pillows, wasn't crazy about the air conditioner in the room, bathroom had NO circulation whatsoever (so after a shower it was too humid to breathe) and bathroom door was as creaky as something out of a horror movie, so it woke everyone up whenever someone had to take a bathroom run in the middle of the night.
The only thing positive I can find to say about this hotel is that it wasn't infested with bugs. I'm still not sure why, given the complete absence of cleaning services. Room was need of repair: door deadlock wouldn't latch, shower door replaced by curtain held by pipe clamps, broken towel rack, peeling wall paper, sticky floor and elevator. No cleaning service for entire week. Took 24+ hours to get broken glass picked up, small shards still in carpet. Desk staff inactive and indifferent. Wifi slower than a fax machine. Would not provide alternative room nor offer refund.
I Love The Presentation Of It All..... The Flashing Lights On The Headboard Was Awesome.... It Made Our Stay Romantic, Sexy And Was Something To Look Forward To. The Water Didn't Really Get Hot.
The hotel staff were very pleasant and polite. The condition of this hotel is poor. Light fixtures broken. Elevator not in proper working order. The bathroom still had shampoo bottles from the last guests on the top ledge in the shower. The bed was comfortable. The pillows were aweful and small and lumpy and old. The whole place. The staff is very nice.
That it was close to the royal farms Arena for our concert The place was run down, I never though hotels like this existed. Some doors wouldn't close all the way or lock. The front desk said that if our room wasn't clean they would have to move us to a different hotel??? What? I booked my room a month in advance. My wife and I had friends staying also and when they got to their room the front door was broken so it wouldn't close or lock and the room was still dirty. The elevator had a mind of its own and wouldn't even goto the floor you selected... Press 3 it will take you to 6. This place is not for anyone to stay at period. Spend the extra $15 and go somewhere else.
Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. The breakfast options were limited.
staff is great wifi
Staff was awesome They told me water was going to be turned off from 9:00 til 1:00 which was okay cause woke up in the morning to go to the aquarium came back around 6:00 and still no water. When the water did come on had no hot water.
Staff were super friendly and nice. Our room was clean and comfortable and our view was great! Nothing
After reading some of the reviews about the AC and readiness of the rooms, I called ahead and made sure everything was working because this was my 1 year anniversary. When we arrived, everything was in place, they gave us a high corner bedroom, and Matt gifted us a complimentary bottle of Champagne! It was a very pleasant surprise for us and really helped make a great evening. The pool was closed and it was a great day for it. They night staff wasn't really prepared for addressing common needs such as getting amenities.
Location There was no hot water and wifi does not work
Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are a bit outdated and a little rundown.
Convince to the ballpark and surrounding waterfront restaurants Nothing really to speak of
Location Served purpose to watch a ball game at Camden Yards Upon arrival was told not to unload bags..had to park in parking garage (hidden $20 more dollars) and walk bags in a long distance. Check in staff not friendly at all. In house bar staff below average attitudes.
Convenient location Hotel was okay for people it serves
The hotel itself and our room was clean and nicely decorated. Our room smelled clean and inviting and it was also quite spacious with a great view even though we paid for one of the more inexpensive rooms. The only negative part of our experience with this hotel was that the air conditioner in our room wasn't working properly. It got really hot over night during our stay and we couldn't get the a/c to turn on, not even the simple fan would work. We paid about 150.00 for this nice room and would have expected something as simple and necessary as the air cooling system to be functioning. We slept through the night with no covers and feeling uncomfortably hot.
Very pleasant staff, very spacious room, the room was extraordinarily clean. I'm glad I stayed there I'm told the facility will be upgraded which will be nice. Still, it is very nice for the money I paid to stay there. It was nice having a continental breakfast. The lady coordinating the continental breakfast is very cheerful and pleasant. Good value. I hope to stay there again. nothing. All was fine
The room felt new and clean. The staff made us feel at home. The quality of the included breakfast food could have been better.
The ONLY bright spot was the fact that a lady named Sharonda actually made us want to stay there, suggested and AND DID something to make us stay. Otherwise, EVERYTHING was bad. We would have left if it wasn't for Sharonda. Breakfast wasn't ready on time, Linda was completely unaccomodating, linens were never changed in 8 nights, cleaning was minimal, the water pressure was low, they gave a key to our room to someone else, there was MOLD on the breakfast sandwiches for breakfast, the toilet seat was broken and the laundry area beside the gym had people's old clothes that were NEVER removed and were out in view, thrown EVERYWHERE.
Location for us was perfect
Loved the room-extremely comfortable bed, smart design, bright and fresh. Loved the staff-no nonsense, friendly, helpful, wonderful smiles. The ice machine directly outside the room-very minor irritant from the noise when ice was dispensed. $32 Valet parking per day through the hotel when one can park in the St. Paul St. garage only two blocks away for a fraction of the cost. This was disappointing because the third party through which the room was booked indicated the hotel provided parking but did not explain it was Valet for $32/day. The hotel does not validate parking in the garage.
Great hotel ,great spacious rooms. Did not appreciate the very very slow Internet connection.
Cozy and convenient to all of downtown Baltimore
Full kitchen. Good breakfast Housekeeping service. Carpets were dirty.
I liked the look and feel of the property and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The $25/night parking was steep compared to other properties.
It's in a good location. Hotel is old and well-worn - in desperate need of a rehab. Despite the Joie de Vivre name, the desk clerk on our arrival was decidedly not happy. We booked a two-bed room and got a king with a too-short foldaway cot, and on one of the coldest days of the year they did not have any spare blankets, so we were given three sheets instead. For $80 a night it would have been ok - for twice that, it was a ripoff.
The room was nice and clean, confertable beds. The reception was rude, we wanted to get food in the middle of the night but there was no one in the building working to suggest any thing to us.
Due to an error in receiving my reservation information from a third party booking agency, the were no available rooms of the type I had reserved. So, the hotel was forced to give me a nicer room at the same rate. The room was a bit dated, but the jetted tub and sitting area were very nice. While the front desk staff and valet seemed to lack professionalism, the staff at the hotel bar were quite welcoming and friendly. When the desk clerk could not locate information on my reservation, she told me to have a seat nearby while she looked for my reservation elsewhere. When she still couldn't find it, she shouted to me across the lobby that her GM said she can't let me into a room until she got the payment details from Kayak and that I had to call Kayak to resolve the issue. I guess asking me to step up to the desk to discuss my situation or calling Kayak herself was too much trouble. While I called Kayak customer service to attempt to resolve the issue, other guests arrived to check in. As a result, the only clerk working the front desk was busy and could not speak with the Kayak representative I had on my cell phone and they had to call the clerk at the hotel a while later to attempt to resolve the issue. While I sat at the lobby waiting for Kayak to call the desk clerk, a hotel valet came to the front desk and used the phone there to loudly order food for himself and the desk clerk from a local restaurant. And then he proceeded to argue with the restaurant about it giving a discount to hotel employees. Not only was this inappropriate business to conduct at the front desk, but I'm left wondering why the front desk clerk has time to tell the valet what she wants to eat, but she can't call Kayak to attempt to resolve the issue with my room. Once the desk clerk spoke with someone from Kayak, she again shouted to me across the lobby about the status of the issue. She said they needed to fax her the information again. After waiting another 5-10 minutes, I approached the desk and asked if she had received the information she needed yet. She said no and walked away from me to FINALLY check the fax machine. Lo and behold, the information she needed was there and she checked me into my room with barely a perfunctory apology for the delay. She also made sure to tell me the issue was that the Kayak third party service provider handling my reservation had the wrong fax number for the hotel so the issue was really someone else's fault. I guess this hotel is nice enough for the price if you don't have any issues with which you need any customer service. But if there is the slightest issue, or you just stick around the lobby for a little while, you'll see that the staff really doesn't seem to have much training on professionalism. I was pretty disappointed by the experience.
I loved how welcomed I felt by the staff. The building is beautiful in a historic part of town. George's restaurant has a great Maryland crab Benedict. No family-oriented amenities.
The hotel felt classy and luxurious. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The valet service was prompt and careful. Great stay. Lovely location. Very clean. Great view. Good deal through Kayak. The bed was way too hard for my personal preference and comfort. Shower could have used a little updating, but the pressure and temperature were perfect.
The room was very clean and spacious. The bathroom was beautiful and had amenities like a towel warmer and an overhead heat lamp. The hotel was in a great location in the heart of Mt Vernon - I could see the Washington Monument from my window. Housekeeping was very accommodating to our schedule and left the room pristine. To preface this review, I stayed at the Wyndham for a total of 6 nights. The WIFI worked about half the time, which was detrimental because I was in Baltimore to take intensive courses at JHU and couldn't do my homework in the room. The staff blamed it on the windy weather, but it was such a huge inconvenience. My keycard also failed to work more than half the time, which was another annoyance. The front desk also overcharged me for "incidentals," a total of $115. They charge $50/day up to 2 days, which should only have come up to $100, so where did that extra $15 come from? They were pleasant enough about it, and corrected it accordingly, but I warn future guests to double check their transactions. Also, the fridge in the room wouldn't get cold even though it was plugged in, and the microwave emitted a scary burning smell when used. Finally, I stopped by IN PERSON the day before my check-in to request an extension of my check-out time from 11am to 2pm, and they happily obliged. Then, the night before my check-out date, I called down to the front desk to confirm and they claimed that they were overbooked and can only extend my check-out time to 12pm. When I let them know I made the request prior to check-in, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. They were kind enough to offer to store my luggage, but again, an inconvenience. Overall, my stay was mediocre due to the faulty amenities, but the staff was gracious and polite about everything. Still, I don't think I would stay here again.
This hotel has a great location and friendly staff. It has a nice, old-fashioned feel which gives it a romantic quality for the price. The decor and furniture are attractive and classic, albeit a bit shabby when examined closely. We were particularly impressed with the bathroom in our corner room, which was filled with marble tiles and a towel warmer. Everything was clean and pleasant. The bar/restaurant attached is a nice place for cocktails as well, especially as a warm-up for a night out in the wonderful area of Mt. Vernon. This neighborhood is desirable for those from out of town, and this hotel provided good prices and an overall pleasant stay. Parking can be an issue; they have valet service (for between $20-$35) that I recommend to anyone not familiar with the neighborhood (we had lived around the corner years before, so knew how to find good parking sports). Additionally, we were staying during an extremely cold (below average temperatures) weekend, and found everything to be a little chilly. On top, we found that the bed was made with only three small pillows and a thin blanket (fine for one person, but there were two of us). When we asked for an extra blanket and pillows later that night, the front desk sadly informed us that they had run out due to a high demand of requests. While they were very sorry, it does seem strange that they had dressed the bed in so few pillows and blankets to begin with, though I understand the need to go for a more minimalist approach in order to conserve energy, etc (and do respect that).
My room Lobby
Very lovely place, excellent location. Staff was helpful Bedding was great whne we arrived, but we did find leftover food in the fridge from the previous guests which made us a little wary of using the tub because we weren't sure how thorough the cleaning was
Really nice hotel - we were given a larvger room, which was very clean and spacious. The staff was very friendly. The only thing is valet parking was $30 - NYC pricing... Around the corner parking lot was $10- should have parked my car there overnight.
Bar is great with wonderful happy hour foods Quiet, nice king bed on 12th floor Uber taxi to Johns Hopkins for $5 Excellent location Great rate thru Kayak Park for $12 a day a block or two away. Would like to be be able to get coffee by 6
Location Horrible customer service! Tons of attitude and talking back. I stayed there for 5 nights, and my room wasn't cleaned at all 2 days out of those. The front desk lady told me in the end of the day that it wasn't her job to clean, that all the cleaning stuff was out for the day, and that there was no manager I could talk to on premises. She told me to just suck it up and wait till the next day (I am not exaggerating !). When I asked her if cleaning services were supposed to be included in my daily room charges, she said yes. Then there was the ongoing issue with them not replenishing toiletries at all even so that was also included in the daily room charges. All and all, this could of been a great hotel if all the front desk staff was replaced or retrained
