size of room, location, very competitive price, excellent restaurant attached
Very good location, just 15 minute walk to the Waterfront and 3 minutes to Long street. In room safe stopped working and even after the supposed fixing it didn't work properly. The internet connection is bit too expensive.
we were upgraded to a Loft Apartment
They upgraded us to a loft and the staff were very accomodating. I know it was no the hotels problem, but starting early Sunday morning and crane was busy being anchored at 9 Dorp Street for a generator to be hoisted onto the roof of the building. It was extremely noisy and disturbing. The sound proofing of the room is not very good either, making the main road below very audible and once again disturbing.
Relaxed but better class
Friendly staff and comfortable rooms with all the ammenities.Good location.
Very close to the V & A waterfront which is a gateway to lots of tours etc.... I was only there for one night.
The staff were particularly helpful and friendly. Having a pianist playing at breakfast was a very nice touch
Good hotel that offers value for money A little too far from the waterfront. Taxi's arranged by the hotel are far more expensive than those that can be self organised.
The rooms are clean, and well supplied with knickknacks if you'd like to spend that kind of money on drinks and snacks. I was disappointed that I was given a room with a single queen size bed. I'd ask for a double bed, which I thought would mean two separate beds. When I checked in with my daughter, I was disappointed that the front desk told me I should've asked for twin beds. There was no option on their website for twin beds. There was an option for two adults which I interpreted as double beds, since that was an option.
breakfast, Butcher's Grill & parking
Comfortable, clean and modern; we stayed in a suite which comes with a great breakfast and cocktail hour
We received an upgrade to the Executive Club Floor This hotel is not the place to stay for couples or any romance. It is all business and has limited facilities for leisure. No outdoor pool. limited food selection. very sterile place!
The location is a right between downtown and the V&A Waterfront. Everything is walkable plus you have great cab service as well as the hop-on hop-off bus right out in front of the hotel. Since this hotel is adjacent to the convention center, getting to anything you want for business or please is easy to do. The breakfast spread in the mornings was excellent and the rooms were nicely appointed wth hotel being very clean. Since the hotel is at the convention center, if there is a large convention in town (that you are not a part of) you may get overwhelmed by conventioneers. There was a large ANC convention in town while we were there. The hotel was able to handle the added quests, so it reallly wasn't a problem but could be an issue for some. Check the Cenvention Center schedule prior to booking. The only other issue I had was the customer service in general. I really thnk this issue is more cultural to South Africa than it is an issue at the Westin. I just didn't feel like the conceirge's were as helpful as they should be getting tickets for me or helping me find a good restaurant. I sat in the bar area of one of the hotels restaurants (1 meter from a restaurant table - didn't realize it) and we asked to order a desert and was told we needed to get up an move 1 meter to the next table. This kind of rigidity does not exist in the USA..,.the customer is always right and we would have been served. That night we decided to get up and move back to our room. At breakfast, there was mixup with the number of people in our room booking (they claimed the reservatin was for one and we had two in the room). Breakfast was supposed to be complimentary but they made us pay for one breakfast each morning (200 Rand)....an inconvenience. I think this would have been handled differently in the US. Overall, I would recommend the hotel for its location and nice amenities, just don't expect 5 star American style service anywhere in South Africa. (Although I will say the overall service level in South Africa is much higher than anywhere I have been in Europe....espeicallly restaurants)
Extremely pleasant, capable, and helpful staff ! Well appointed room with great view ! Exceptionally good black-out shades in room that permitted good sleep while adjusting to new time zone ! Very comfortable, Quiet room! Good spa facilities. Good on-sight restaurants. Good buffet breakfast. Excellent wifi, including in the room !! Beautiful design/architecture. Bright and cheerful. I REALLY LIKED THIS HOTEL !! Minor complaint: The "lap pool" usually did not serve for swimming laps as it was the only pool at the hotel, it was only one lap wide, and was used by guests for simply lounging in the water. However, the gym was well equipped, so I was still able to get good exercise.
Good location. Very neat and modern. Staff friendly. We had to pay for our parking ticket every day. At these rates I think it is rediculous
The location of this Hotel is perfect for business trip. The price for this hotel is quite worthy.
Location House Keeping
Excellent location, shuttle to waterfront reliable, excellent breakfast, very pleasant surroundings, intererior excellent, comfortable atmosphere, friendly and helpful restaurant staff, very clean sporting facilities, pool, shower, jacuzzi, etc. Swimming pool too small, cleaning of bedroom was erratic,
The Spa on the 19th floor is really relaxing and very clean. The breakfast downstairs was of a high standard and obtuse there was awareness re health eg smoothies etc. The room was comfortable, very corporate- the bathroom is cleverly designed and very user friendly.
The breakfast.....was very good All three times my car parking was a problem...... First they misplace my key and had to wait 20minutes to find it..... then they brought my car out to early standing in the sun for 30minutes after I arrange when I wanted the car. We I wanted to leave after check out, my car was parked in and they could find the owner......so this experience that was suppose to be something nice..... was very frustrated.
The room was clean & fine. Bathroom was with tile heating & very clean. Although it was written free wi-fi is only at the lobby, there was hotel wide wi-fi, including rooms. Everything was perfect about the hotel. Shuttle service is very useful. Just one of the reception staff was rude. Other than that everything was flawless.
high quality facility providing full service. Staff is competent, professional and helpful. Room are comfortable and clean. Food is very good. Internet works well Sometimes prices on high side for Cape Town where there are plenty of options
Location, reception staff Breakfast takes long, Indian tea which should be available take longer than everything same for Indian menu not available immediately
Initial impressions was one of apprehension as I had to ask to be helped. Otherwise the staff was very helpful and displayed a level of professionalism Nothing
Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff Dinner at the Mint restaurant was only ok
Breakfast was excellent, and the staff is amazing, particularly the concierge. Bathrooms have windows to the bedrooms above the tub... why?
Didn't like additional pay for parking and sometimes there wasn't enough parking spaces.
Very central location and just 1/2 km from the Civic Centre if you are flying, cost one way R50-00 per person. A small quantity of dishwashing power and liquid detergent could have been supplied.
The room was very spacious and clean, the decor was modern, and the staff was helpful. The fact that there was no free internet or gym or pool facilities but was advertised during booking. However I was there on business so I did not need it.
Staff superb, rooms excellent - perfect distance from conference centre. A longer flex on the iron would be good !!!!!!!
spacious accommodation poor kitchen utensils
The size of the suite with enough windows to open and let the light in The staff seems untrained. There were only 2 clothes hangers each of us and after asking 3 times for more hangers, we finally got a few on the third day. On the Saturday morning the cleaning lady was knocking on our door at 8.30, telling us she wants to clean the room now. There is also no dressing table or full length mirror in this very spacious room.
Spacious room Parking is terrible. it is badly designed.
Privacy, Easy smooth booking, check-in/out. Centrally located. The rooms are modern and clean Lack of basic kitchen items such as a dishcloth, salt & pepper & dish washing liquid.
The apartments are beautifully appointed N/A
Good value for the size of the room. Good for downtown business location. Breakfast was poor. Reception calling up on staff to check on room as you check out felt disrespectful to a paying guest. Was poorly handled. Was marketed as a waterfront hotel, it is not a waterfront hotel.
Very good location. Great rooms and service!
Location, the size of the room and lounge room Problems with wireless seemed never ending. Little things like salt n pepper, some dishwashing liquid should be provided. If you stay for a night or two, is it worth going outside looking for some salt? I know it's cheap but I didn't have the time.
Close to conference centre, affordable off street parking, free internet, nice breakfast buffet, quiet room. One international power point provided. Some obvious missing features -- no iron in the rooms, no soap or moisturiser, and yet premium international prices for a Cape Town location. The internet required daily renewed login which was a little annoying. Twin-share room was rather small, only ~25 cm between the beds. Only one chair in the room. Only total two spare power points. Our water bottle kept disappearing and re-appearing depending on the day.
The hotel is 5 minutes from the conference site where our conference is held. This is what I like the most as walking in Cape Town is not extremely safe after dark. It is not close to many attractions but it was okay for me. Other than that, services and staffs are reasonable. I did not get a chance to stay at other hotels in Cape Town so I can't make a fair comparison.
The lights wouldn't and air conditioner wouldn't work even with the key card
The service was great. Nice people....Good location. They have a free shuttle service for a 3km radius. The Rbg grill restaurant and the one one the roof had some great tasting food on the menu. We were in room 505. The toilet had a bad odour. Additionally, the A/C wasn't working on the first day but we didnt worry much because it was cold outside. They fixed the A/C on the second day but it again stopped working on the last night of our stay.
Location is perfect for the full Cape Town experience and staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. Rooms are very comfortable and clean and hotel felt very safe. They also have a sister beach club at Camps Bay which is complimentary and a fantastic added bonus to an already superb hotel and holiday experience
excellent staff and rooms very good spa not really finished when we arrived. Pool small and not always useable due to wind. Did not get mountain view from all rooms as promised
Great service good breakfast Very minor but felt being charged £7.20 for 4 small waters at breakfast was not correct
Ambience, accessibility to the essential needs such as shopping, restaurants, None
efficient staff, excellent breakfast und dinner we booked 4 twin rooms not double rooms
Sense of security Slow lifts.
Hotel has a modern decor and is clean. Breakfast is good and wifi worked well in the room. Price was reasonable for the quality. Bed was comfortable. The room was tiny but maybe I had a special price and got the small room. The room was prepay and I had to do a special credit card form (or wire transfer) to pay in advance.
The staff was very helpful. The breakfast was good. Service excellent. Good value for money. The WiFi in the room was down the entire time. Hotel did, however, make internet available in common room available. Bathroom satisfactory, but detail to cleaning would be helpful (grouting and shower areas).
Very nice hotel in City Bowl Breakfast for a child was extra ZAR 75 although he hardly ate anything.
location, service, food
it was good even though i thought , it was expensive. it was not made clear during booking that price goes up on weekdays breakfast was same everyday
Very friedly staff. The upgraded rooms are well appointed. City hotel, good for business. Excellent breakfast and room service
I was given a room which was very small. Hardly any space to keep the luggage. There were problems in the bathroom.Wash basin was blocked, There was a leak.Only on last day of my stay I was given an another room
Great location, great service and free wi-fi througoht the hotel. Nothing.
Apartment hotel room was large and fully equipped for extended stays and had an excellent location close to eateries and clubs and added plus a great view of Table Mountain.
very comfortable child friendly had to use two lifts to get to breakfast
We had a huge flat with an excellent view an the table mountain. Very well situated and good price ( we were there in august 2010).
Hotel was excellent, staff were very friendly an helpfull.Facillities were superb.Had a great time at the hotel
Rooms are beautiful with fantastic views. Gym access was great. WiFi was TERRIBLE!!!! If you need reliable internet access, this is not the place, the signal is poor, access is difficult and limited. If this was corrected, Madela Rhodes would be a superb hotel.
Stunning building and proximity to many attractions in Cape Town, including Company Gardens, Parliament, St. George's Cathedral, Greenmarket Square, etc. Apartment-style is very suitable for family travel. En-suite bathrooms in each of the 2 bedrooms is very convenient and also private enough for the adults, as both were well separated. Guest Loo - what a luxury to have, and the hotel made no hassle of guests in the apartment with you. Staff were accommodating and kind. The state of cleanliness left much to be desired. You have all these great facilities, but when you travelling with small children, you do not want them rolling around on scuffed floors and dirty carpets, nor touching dirty chairs, etc. Throw-up from a previous stay was regurgitated by one of the many basins in the apartment, and never used again. That was disappointing. They do need some assistance with housekeeping, but I found that to be a problem in restaurants as well in Cape Town. Hope that it gets better. The facilities in this apartment do make up for the lack of attention to details, though.
Superb quality accommodation in an ideal central location in Cape Town
The friendly disposition of staff, especially Thembi and Zanele in restaurant. Mary from housekeeping none
Very comfortable with gym facilities The shower in the studio apartment W503 messes on the floor when taking a shower.
Very convenient central location for sightseeing and shopping. Well equipped rooms - loads of space and comfortable furnishings. Good choice of places to eat nearby. Extremely helpful and courteous staff ... after check-out, we requested somewhere to store/re-pack luggage and to shower and change before a late evening flight, and we were kindly allowed this facility at no extra charge. Nothing.
The location was very good and the rooms themselves were really nice. It felt like a spacious 1 bedroom/studio apartment and it was awesome to have a kitchen (although we intended to use it we didn't, the restaurants are great and affordable) The WIFI connection is very slow. This seems to be an issue in South Africa at times, but it was incredibly bad at times. It would take several minutes just to load e-mail. Also, there was no fitness center there. We were given cards to go to a local gym around the corner, we did that one day and then one of the security staff told me they had made a mistake and we weren't allowed. I asked other members at the front desk later, they had no idea of this policy change. In all, I was disappointed there was no fitness center there, felt a little misleading.
Apartment with kitchen Everything nearby shuts down early, not the most inviting area to walk around after dark
Best hotel ever stayed at
Staff are efficient and friendly, go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. Outstanding in quality and service. No complaints or issues.
Casual yet clean efficient =- very beautifully decorated Only suggestion would be to increase wireless signal strength
Outstanding service, excellent location, rooms were unique, room booked was spacious
This gorgeous boutique property in Cape Town's CBD provides everything a traveler would want while visiting CT - perfect location, amazing rooms and service that is above and beyond! The staff here is amazing. The airline lost my luggage and they went out of their way to locate it and when it arrived water-logged, arranged for cleaning. They anticipated my every need, often before I did. This is not only a stand-out hotel in Cape Town, it is one of the best in the world!
Interior decor of the hotel and the room was very special, and courtyard restaurant is fantastic and has a great romantic atmosphere. The rooftop has a nice jaccuzzi. The location is great, easy access to table mountain from there. Breakfast was very good. The only downside was that the hotel was on a busy road and so we could hear the cars going past at night especially at the weekend.
The welcoming atmosphere is wonderful. The staff are very helpful and the location, close to a number of very good restaurants and within walking distance of the city centre attractions, makes this hotel an excellent choice.
Comfortable and beautiful, the staff is friendly and enthusiastically helpful.
Staff were excellent. 4 star hotel with 5 star service.
Amazing boutique hotel, great central location, friendly staff and tasty breakfast.
Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful the whole time we were there. Very convenient with several restaurants in the courtyard adjacent.
Excellent service, wonderful colonial style, great position, superb breakfast, outstanding staff... what else???
Stephanie - the check-in / front desk staff was very helpful in offering advice on activities to do, how to do it cheaply and the best means of getting around Cape Town. The rest of staff were also very helpful and friendly. The free breakfast was excellent quality and tasty. Location: close to the yellow bus stop on the hop on hop off tour which made it easy to get around Cape Town.
The location is very good- close to the shopping malls and other amenities and easy to get to from outside the city . Thanks for the shuttle too .The meals are also good Front Office staff can do better, phones go unanswered and some staff look at you like they dont want you to talk to them
Staff extremely helpful with good house keeping service. very comfy bed. Room 203 (superior) needs good layer of fresh paint and the bathroom mould and insect treatment. Also mini bar has to be defrosted and checked regulary- you are greeted with iceberg and rust rings from cans. It seems that the drinks were there for long, long time. Maybe this is some sort of South African thing but it's very difficult to get stil water in mini bar.
I liked the modern decor in the old building with the antique elevator, up to date modcoms, e.g. free internet via Apple computer. I also liked the originality of the themed Airstream trailers-I stayed in John & Yoko and enjoyed reading the books that were there etc. Food in The Cafe is good. A bit noisy in rooms above Daddy Cool..
we enjoyed the stay in the trailers on the roof for two nights, just not the place to take kids. No privacy. parties till late. Targeted for age group 18- 25 years age group. very loud and hectic. But a great experience. the bed was too small in the afro punk trailer . No privacy on the roof ,not very secure with anyone and everyone walking around the trailers and trying to look inside. We did not feel very safe. No safe to lock valuables away. Not notified in advance of parties and shows on the roof.
The staff was friendly and service efficient. Food, great! Got an upgrade to a suit and could comfortly entertain family and friends.Central in town and close to all the hot spots. Thanx for a great stay.
location relaxation / sports facilities would be a bonus
The Grand Daddy is a "funky" hotel housed in one of Cape Town's beautiful old buildings right on the hip Long Street, that gives the choice of staying in a normal modern hotel room or for the more adventurous - a genuine but refurbished Airstream caravan on the hotel's roof. We did both, but decided to swap the caravan for a proper room after one night because we wanted a real bathroom and because there was a funny smell that probably came from undrained water stuck under the camper. Apart from the caravan village, the roof also has a nice outdoor bar and a space that alternates as music stage, dinner party space and outdoor cinema showing great old American b/w movies. Very nice! Pretty good restaurant on ground floor. Friendly confusion A little TLC wouldn't hurt to bring standard back to what it probably was when the hotel opened. Tiles in caravan bathroom looked a bit sad. Bad smell outside caravan. Glass door in room made terrible racket when swung open or shut. Wireless internet was extremely slow and a waste of money. Breakfast was not included in price and seemed to cost differently every day. Windows in Sugar Daddy Suite faced brick wall full of bird poop. Would have expected a view for that price.
It was memorable and quirky The service was bad and the caravan decor is a little crappy. It is falling apart and not worth the r1000
Good location, nice breakfast bar, friendly staff, overall good value for money, would recommend it. The bar closed too early for City dwellers. 10.30 for last orders is not cosmopolitan.
Excellent location, walkable to most major attractions. Freindly staff no issues with early and late check in/out.
Perfect Hotel, good location. Situated on a very loud street where security is an issue. Surroundings (aka streets) are not well maintained. Be careful at night.
After having stayed at all category og hotels for 30 years; this is the most pleasant receprion staf ever. A bit noice from the street, bars and trafic. Hope some will be better after consruction work is finished
In trying to create a balance on all the above points, lack of sleep can lead to murder..... I loved every thing about the hotel, except the unassuming, hidden noise factor that takes over from 11pm -4am every day. Please sound proof the window area.
Contemporary style and location right in the centre. Breakfast is just superb with a special for their yogourt and cooked plates. Staff utterly friendly and accomodating. Cleaning ladies very helpfull. Being located on Long St with Bars and Restos everywhere, it is pretty noisy at night. However on the 5th floor it gets fine. Otherwise room was beautiful and overall hotel is great.
The hotel is well decorated but dirty, hairs in the bath etc. The location is shocking, it's extremely noisy (Sunday night clubs go till after 4am). We left after 1 night as we had no sleep, and were very disappointed with the hotel and how our problems were dealt with. Everything
Great location, great design, amazing rooms.....in other words: perfect! Breakfast is poor....you don't understand if the "breakfast included in room price" means continental breakfast or all inclusive, since the staff is handing a menu with prices.....another thing, we came to have breakfast an hour before the official breakfast end time and there was almost no food available....
Nice room and nice service A little bit noisy : the windows are too thin to block all the noise from Long Street which is noisy street at night
The room (602) was absolutely beautiful with the most stunning view of Table Mountain. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The garage parking included in the price, was much appreciated and an added bonus when you compare to other hotels parking situations. windows urgently need a wash (on a more regular basis at least) and the shower door did not work (room 602) - a fault from the installers - which the hotel staff should have picked up on a walk around when building was finished. road was very noisy.
Helpful staff Noise ++++++ - the hotel is located above a nightclub, surrounded by bars and opposite a backpackers on the only party street in capetown. Do not stay here unless you intend to party and be the last in bed each night a sunrise!
Great view to Table mountain from the hotel room. What a way to wake up!A bit noisy from the street, but with earplugs, you won't notice.Restaurants, shops, museums etc in the neigbourhood.
The situation of the hotel was very convenient as we were booked to travel to Johannesburg on the Shosholoza Meyl Premiere Class Train the next day. We needed to deliver our vehicle to the station very early in the morning.
very central location in a decent clean hotel at a fantastic price.
This hotel is not up to the general standard of most hotels in Cape Town. Service was very poor, the amenities did not work, the parking system for vehicles is highly problematic and essentially the hotel needs a major overhaul. The toliet was not working, The staff werfe rudhe
The staff where nice
The people there were great enjoyed every bit of my stay
Staff very helpfull and pleasant. Rooms a little more ventilated.
having breakfast watching tv and shopping
spacious rooms, good breakfast, free parking, free internet, modern interior
Relaxing atmosphere. Security in building. Adequate self catering apparatus. Beautiful spacious apartment. Friendly staff at reception, dining room and rooms. Air conditioner in bedroom not working and was not fixed even after it was reported.
Size of room and facilities available. Location Inability to have an earlier check-in.
Large size rooms The pillows
The room was very comfortable and well kept. The staff were outstanding: professional, very helpful, kind, and welcoming. I would come back just because of the staff. The breakfast was also wonderful. I was very frustrated with only getting 50MB of internet/day without paying more. I was unable to keep up with my business responsiblities because I kept running out of internet every day. I would have to leave the hotel and find some other place to complete my work.
nothing, very poor, dirty drown water coming from the bath taps, sink and shower, the dish washer would only work with the cold water and did not clean anything. This is not the standard expected for a 4 star hotel and the cost paid per day should be to a lot higher standard of cleanliness, food menu selection, limited fresh fruit with the morning breakfast so if you are not first then you get nothing. Only the second day did we get one small bottle of water and and then nothing.
The welcome. The friendliness of the staff. Their prompt attention to anything needed. The location right between the town and the waterfront was excellent - and yet still reasonably quiet. Having a balcony meant you could sit out in the sunshine. The fresh coffee provided each day in my kitchen! Having a small apartment in a hotel provided the best of both worlds. The sofa & chair in my room where a bit hard to sit on for long - but then I wasn't in for long periods so it wasn't a problem for me. Would have been useful to have a microwave oven as well.
Large room with nice decoration. Good breakfast.
Friendly, helpful staff, Spacious apartments with adequare furnishings.
The room was absolutely wonderful. The upgrade I was given guarantees that I will stay again next time in Cape Town. The staff was so knowledgeable and friendly. The location cannot be beat. The parking is very difficult to find the first time. I must have circled around the block 5 times before finding it.
great location within a ten minute walk to to the waterfront with many great restaurants. Rooms were smaller than expected, but adequate. Internet service was slow and some time "hit and miss". Food service at the pool side bar and restaurant were either very good or very bad depending on the service person attending to your requests. A shout out goes to Darron, wait person who was the best.
Location is excellent, staff were excellent, friendly and helpful My room was on the 4th floor and next to a staff room of some kind that was very noisey
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was fine. The location is great for sightseeing The hotel is close to a nightclub which had really loud music until 4am making it impossible to get any sleep. It ruined what would otherwise be a great hotel
It was comfortable, well run and excellent location
Yes, the toilets were dirty and the sheets as well. Very disgusting, wouldnt recommend to stay here.
The location was excellent - right on the square next to the bustling market and just around the corner from the busy Long Street.
great location and nice large room loved having breakfast included each morning and shopping right outside of door within walking distance and great concierge for planning excursions reservaton was made for 6 days per hotel staff and not 5 days per booking .com but staff took care of it
The restuarant Had to move rooms as what we booked was not wat we get. The price of a double is the same as single room cannot believe it
We had a lovely stay and a super breakfast - we will visit again.
