Our suite was very nice. Bedding and bathroom were both very clean and fresh.View was great - we could see the city and the river from our vantage point. The room had a nice bar area with refrigerator, however we had to ask for extra glasses. There was a stain on one of the chairs, a light bulb was out, and we only had one drinking glass in room. However, they replaced the light bulb promptly and brought us extra glasses when we asked.
We will not be staying at your hotel again. On Saturday, August 6, 2016 we traveled to Louisville to exchange our granddaughter with her mother. When we arrived, there was nowhere to park, so we had to park in the parking garage, which we had to pay for. My husband went to check in while I was left to entertain our granddaughter. He informed me there was a line, of people, out the door, waiting to check in and would be approximately two hours before he would be able to check in. After 45 minutes, I asked my husband how much longer did he anticipate the wait will be. He told me the line was still very long, no employee had bothered to inform the guests of what the problem was or why it was taking so long and he estimated it would be at least another 45 minutes or longer before it would be his turn. At that point, I called the Galt House reservations and requested to cancel our reservation. I was told there was no way I could cancel and get and not be charged as the reservation was for that day. When I explained how long my husband had been waiting to check in, and how much longer he would have to wait, while I was trying to keep a child calm, the attitude was "Oh well, too bad" there's nothing I can do for you. At that point, I contacted my husband and told him to get out of line, we were leaving, we would find another hotel, which we did. I will now be charged for two hotels because of the inefficiency and obvious lack of respect for guests. This is not the only hotel in that town, and I’m sure there were others who left that ridiculous situation and were willing to pay the price of checking in to a hotel where there wasn’t a two hour wait. Because of your inefficiency, you lost nothing - we lost the cost of an unused hotel room and parking fee! Mary
I love the Galt House hotel in general. Being from Lousiville, is is nearly iconic. The location overlooking the waterfront and the river is amazing. The beds, super comfortable and we really enjoy the Restaourant, Rivue, for a romantic dinner. The hotel is dated, has a dirty appearance in parts and when we stayed, there was an almost mildew like smell on the floor. Staff are average at best relative touchstones service. 2 examples, upon check in there was a line of at least 20 people. There were 5 staff checking in people. While I was waiting and finally reached the front of the line, one desk attendant finished up and I anticipated being called over. Instead, he proceeded to "flirt," with a young lady who was being checked in by the attendant next to him, asking if she was here for business or pleasure. WHen she informed him she was there with a bachelorette party he proceeded to give her all sorts of advice about where to go, etc. Not saying THAT is necessarily poor service, but, the attendant checking in the young lady could have provided that service, while he moved on to the next guest in line. Instead I waited for the NEXT person to finish and call me over. Second example, I went to the car to retrieve an item and my wife had asked me to track down a bottle of water on my way back. We were in the Rivue tower and I stopped at the desk by the elevators to ask about a bottle of water and where I could get one. The attendant at the desk was attempting to do something with her phone, be ever acknowledged me when I approached. I then stated, "excuse me," in a normal tone and the attendant never responded. I repeated, "excuse me," a second time , but a bit louder in case, perhaps she did nothear me. Again, no response. So a third time I announced myself, this time a little louder, perhaps a bit irritated. Finally she acknowledged me, without making eye contact, simply stating, "can I help you?" While continue to look down and "fiddle," with her phone. I asked my question she simply replied? "What floor are you on?" I told her, she replied, "vending machine is your best bet." Never once looked up.
Stayed the night for an event at yum center. It was very. Ice to have access to event from hotel skywalk I like a softer mattress. But it didn't really effect my slumber lol.
The hotel was very nice and the staff even nicer. It's location and views are great. Downtown Louisville has an eclectic selection of restaurants and bars as well as different museums within easy walking distance if you choose to explore. If not, there are several bars and eating places there at the hotel. We parked the car when we got there and only had to get back in it once when we went to Churchill Downs. We will stay again if our travels take us back to Louisville. The prices for some of the casual food places was too high. $2.65 for a large coffee at the walk up Thelma's and $16 per person at the Magnolia Cafe for an ordinary breakfast buffet is a bit much.
Good location. Greatly in need of many updates. Extremely outdated property.
Comfy bed Room smelled musty
It was within walking distance to all the major attractions. The AC units in the room were extremely loud, sounded like a percussion band coming through our room each time it turned on. Also, the walls aren't very think and can hear every word your neighbors speak.
The hotel was in a great location Everytime I asked someone working there a question, they either didn't know or wouldn't help.
It was a beautiful hotel at a great location! Loves of things for guests, the pool, gym, and if you want to eat there they had great options. It was a safe area and the view was amazing! We were close to a lot of fun downtown things and we felt comfortable leaving a car parked in the garage. My family had never been to Louisville ever and the location of the hotel was easy to find but it was a very confusing check in process for us! There was so much going on and so many people on a very small area it was very congested! Also when we booked I looked for "Free Parking" hotels and tgis one came up so I assumed parking would be free and it wasn't.
That you could walk inside with the skywalks, it rained the whole time we were there. No complimentary breakfast. Then the Magnolia advertises breakfast buffet, but there was not one and a VERY limited breakfast menu. None of the restaurants were really kid friendly except for Thelma's Deli which is overpriced.
Ideal location. Should have a free breakfast option.
If you're only staying for one night this hotel is a must. It is right downtown and close to everything. The beds are comfortable and room was huge. They had an open balcony so we got upgraded to that room. Short walk to the river or Louisville slugger museum or take the trolly to 4th Street Live! A little expensive but if only staying one night and want to see as much Louisville as possible this hotel is a must.
