Room was spacious and had style, old city house with interesting furniture, a place with some character. Much better value than other box-like rooms in nearby 'modern' hotels which charged twice the price. The shower wasn't great, limited water supply. Still plumbing issues to be expected in an old town house like this, and management quickly fixed any problems.
booked v late so choice v limited. Chose Arapey because walking access to old city & port. good bus links. variety of eating places nearby. sheets not ironed, we doubted that they had been washed. Looked as though bedding had just been thrown back after last occupant. carpet dirty. lighting dangerous. decor jaded. there was no reduction on actual room rate. dollar:pesos conversion 20% above going rate in city
The quietness. Not so noisy with all the traffic.
The staff was helpful with one of the quesitons that I had for them. The room was not heated and it dropped into the 20s in Montevideo. The hotel had hot water for about five minutes so although my companion could get a shower, I could not. The sheets were stained and so old they were beginning to decay, as was not only the pillow case but the pillow itself. It was expensive ($32) for location and what one receives.
Not much, it's very basic hotel. It was not very clean and the rooms were very small.
There was nothing that I liked about my stay at the Hotel Lancaster. The hotel is dirty and seedy. In the dead of winter the heat did not work.A staff person could not help nor were there free-standing heating units that could be brought to my room. The phone in the room was completely dead and flithy. The bathroom sink was loose and coming off the wall. The hotel is understaffed and clearly no care goes in to maintaining the facility.
Central location ideal, 12th floor room afforded good view over the Montevideo skyline, reception staff helpful to book evening entertainment. The state of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. When we arrived (late afternoon), the bathroom had not been cleaned, rubbish not emptied and empty crisp packets/coke cans were left on the side from the previous occupants. The porter tried to surreptitiously remove the aforesaid items while we set our luggage down, but it didn't go unnoticed!
Good location, reasonable facilities including fridge and free use of internet computer. If you ignore the awful front desk service, it is good value. Front desk service was dreadful. I arrived on time but was asked to wait. Over the course of an hour I had to ask three different people what the cause of delay was. Each time I had to give my name. One of the staff just went home during this time. An elderly gentleman trying to change his room said the hotel was worse than anything he'd experienced in World War 2. He was exaggerating... After all this I was surprised tha the room was quite acceptable.
Excellent location on one of the main city squares with views along the main shopping street and down to the sea. Guest computer was useful. The cleaning staff did not clean and were rather rude. The cleaners would hold the lifts (elevators) for hours meaning that guests would have to walk up and down the stairs. We were on the 10th floor and so this was not much fun! In addition on one occasion when I walked up the stairs a cleaner swung the elevator door open into me - this hurt but the cleaner just laughed and offered no apology. The reception staff were not much better and would pander to the large noisy groups that the hotel seemed to like having while ignoring the needs of couples and family groups.
We reserved a room with two single beds and they put is in a room with three single beds. The third was like a rollaway bed that was annoying to have in there and took up too much room. We got in at about 2:30am and had to leave at around 9am so it didn't make sense to try to get them to take it away. And then we woke up in the morning and discovered there were no towels. Not impressed.
