Tour of house was excellent and very informative and lady who was at reception was very pleasant. The room service was appalling as on our first nights return the bed has not been made and nothing had been touched. When trying to contact someone no-one came to the room until we contacted emergency number three times. However his attitude was not good and we would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone. Also it seemed very strange that we only received a continental breakfast on our first morning but after our complaints about the lack of room cleaning on the first night we were given a full cooked breakfast for the second morning
-Friendly staff -Delicious breakfast -Take a trip back in time. Fascinating history involving the house, especially if you enjoy art. Take the tour!!!
This is a beautifuly keep Historic House. The staff was very helpful especially for my wife who has special needs. I always looked forward to the morning breakfast and just sitting in the Courtyard.....
Price, $--- and somewhat close to Main Street in French quarter, about 15 minute walk Room #2 is next to front desk close to front door. Front desk people and friends talked/laughed till 3 AM and people came and went causing more noise. Room was dark. Ceiling fan wonbly Bathroom old with tiles missing and nasty caulking.
LOCATION!!! it's right at EVERTHING and walgreeens is across the main street 3 seconds walking! really convenient. There are some many things that went wrong with this reservation, 255 characters will not cover it. My room was not ready when i arrived, the staff was ill prepared and rude. 'breakfast' was a joke. They didn't even have fruit. AND there was no AC working

For a last minute booking it was better than sleeping on the street The room access was not great for having family to drop by everyone must be escorted into the lobby in order to reach your room, no cell service and the hotel wifi was beyond shoty having to go outside the entire property to use the phone/web
This is my favorite hotel in New Orleans.
The architecture, furniture, and set up. From the beautiful pink to the patio furniture. I loved the style and eating breakfast outdoors. Beautiful. This place was built in the 1800s. It was awesome to be there. Well, probably due to humidity or other atmospheric conditions, the room has a dampness (slight musty smell), but not unbearable, to it. It could be because it survived the devastating flooding from Katrina and/or due to its age. Air freshener will help.
The staff, were very nice, helpful, sweet. Good giving directions and gave me a map. T.V. didn't work, fixed it. Great breakfast. They had people working on the place, so I'm sure next time will be even better. Cold shower. Couldn't understand, hot from sink, but cold from shower.
The readiness of the staff to serve and their initiative to help breakfast could be improved
Lots of character!! Room was small but very clean and the bed was super comfortable. Also there was a small fridge in the room. Parking on sight so you don't have to park on the street or find a garage and walk to the hotel. Staff was very friendly.
I loved everything about this place, and it's very vintage New Orleans which was amazing! I honestly have zero complaints about this B&B. I will definitely be staying there again.
It was SO quaint! Nothing fancy but, we really enjoyed our time. It is so close to all the best the French Quarter has to offer. My friend especially loved the cats that lived outside in the courtyard. We had a tough time understanding how to get the shower warm at first but, my friend figured it out. It is the weirdest shower I've ever seen.
It's walking distance from everything No fresh towels Staff not helpful what so ever Oh, cockroaches were 'nice' Staff didn't care either
The pool was great, very pretty courtyard. The rooms where very cozy and the hotel had good style Called us at 11pm wanting our car keys
everything horrible experience
The hotel was quiet and with a reasonable breakfast. The staff was friendly and responsive to my needs. Good internet access included in the rate which is always a plus. For the level of comfort and amenities the price was slightly high. The surrounding area needs to be improved which makes access at night to this hotel somewhat problematic if you are not taking a cab.
Location & price-fine:::::staff excellent-- Phone message service--POOR !! door pass card/key very poor
Staff was very courteous and informative. Breakfast buffet was a plus Internet services was intermittent, and no elevator
Friendly and helpful staff were the most noteworthy aspect of this hotel. Fresh Belgian waffles available with breakfast were a plus!
I enjoyed the fact that this wasn't a luxurious hotel. We wanted an adventure, and the fact that this wasn't the the Hilton or a Double tree made the experience seem more authentic. The staff seemed a little like they were overwhelmed. It took a little while for them to organize everything to get us checked in.
Very dangerous Location. The room was also the worse room I have ever stayed in and the staff (and Owner! would not change me to another because I booked a low rate on your website. Very Unprofessional.
the front desk staff was very pleasant the room was in very disrepair. The TV did not work, sink was not attached to wall, floors were falling apart, and bathroom was dirty
I thought the hotel staff when we checked in was very nice. She was helpful and suggested places to eat etc. The hotel courtyard was emaculate and very pretty. I thought the hotel was quaint and unique however, the rooms are not consistent. As I was looking into rooms (when they were being cleaned) there were some rooms that were somewhat nice however, ours was not. The room l stayed in looked as if it hadn't been updated since the 1970'S. The chairs in the room were stained and I wouldn't sit on them without a towel. The tv was too small for the room and was very old. Half the screen was pink and the other half was blue. I think the cost of the hotel is too high for what you get.
It is a basic but fine hotel, the staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, and the location was good. What more could I want for this price?
The location was great, just a short walk to the French Quarter and the staff were very nice. The hotel definitely looked better in pictures than in real life. We knew it was a cheap hotel going in, but weren't prepared for how cheap it was going to be. Mattress and pillows had protective vinyl covers, for example.
Did not like anything about this hotel. The room was filthy, with no hooks in bathroom for towels. Toilet roll on the floor because roll holder was broken, no soap dish, cracks in wall with grime & mold, tiny heater stopped working after 15 seconds, towels had stains on them & tv was over the bed with electric wires hanging all over. Worst of all I was charged USD198 for 2 nights non refundable via booking.com while walk in clients were charged USD74 per nite. We had to leave after 1 nite (& lose our 2nd nite payment) as conditions were worse than backpackers room in Vietnam & Indonesia. I guess I cannot book on trust anymore. Booking.com should remove this hotel from their list.
NOTHING! It's the worst imaginable Roach motel. The second day we were there the tub would not drain and the hole in the ceiling leaked water every time we took a shower. We notified the staff that morning of the issues. When we returned that same evening nothing was done and the floor was completely flooded. We went back to complain and we were promptly helped. The same staff member I originally notified tried to revoke my deposit when I went to ask about coffee in my socks. I would not walk around the room barefooted. The floor was so dirty. The remote for the TV didn't work. I could go on and on.
We stayed at The Empress for Mardi Gras. The redeeming thing about it is its location. Walking distance to everything in the French Quarter. This place is undeniably cheap given this fact, so just be sure to plan a lot of activities that keep you out of it. This place should definitely advertise more as a hostel instead of a hotel. Rooms are literally a bed with a toilet nearby. The only small window is high off the ground in a random spot in the room. There is no central ventilation (common in old Nola houses though), so you may need to frequently adjust the window AC unit or the space heater you're provided. The tub flooded as we showered so we started each day knee-high in water. The mattress was plastic covered, which is understandable given where we were, but there were stains and cigarette burns on the linens. At the end of your stay, there will be a walk through to get your $10 deposit back and to make sure you did not steal any of the sandpapery towels. Oh, and don't expect any privacy as the walls are literally paper thin. And be warned that another practice here is that you'll need to leave the key at the front desk every time you leave. Not bad, just odd.
I was in New Orleans and had running water and a roof over my head. Beds, bathrooms, and rooms were appalling, had to buy my own sheets, towels, and shower mat to make quarters livable. Location wasn't in the best neighborhood but not far from downtown.
I enjoyed the location and helpful staff. The room was quiet and generally clean. I disliked the plastic covered pillows and lumpy mattress which sagged in the middle.
keep your expectations low and it's not that bad...
Walked to Amtrak station. Staff was friendly. Morning coffee was delicious. It was a bed, tv, shower-all I really needed. Please put some $$$ into it. Bathroom floor has fixed up piece that sank when you got in shower. Power outage in area, but that wasn't hotel's fault. They should def revise hotel into a hostel as fellow guest suggest. Should have been cheaper.
The location is great, walking distance to everything in the French Quarter. The rooms are older, but like the perfect hostel. It has everything one needs to have in a hotel room in a place like NOLA. A bed, a bathroom. The staff was perfect and kind. We got a new TV in our room as an upgrade. If you read the other reviews it is obvious those people are used to spending too much for "classy" hotels. The Empress was the best hotel we have stayed in. The water in the shower was HOT, great water pressure, clean just old. I LOVE the Empress Hotel and will definitely be staying there again for sure. The bed was a little uncomfortable, but there is absolutely nothing else I did not like.
The other guests that I met on the patio.
