The included breakfast & friendly staff. The drafty windows that scream all night because of how much wind they let through. The rooms & hotel need major updating, compared to the other comparable hotels the Blue Saga is seriously dragging behind with decor from the 60's
This is a avery poorly maintained hotel. The staff is not very informative about the Iceland and very unhelpful to customers. The rooms are not cleaned properly and customer complaints not attended promptly. In my five days stay, my room telephone never worked, shower head never fixed, it took two days tho fix the locker. I had to visit the front desk several times to complain but not much was done. Overall it was a very unpleasant experience. We were a group of 15 people that could not call room to room - had to use what is app to communicate and coordinate activities. So sad
The room was super clean, had many amenities and was well appointed (bathrobe, slippers, plenty of towels, a safe, cable Tv and radio, Wifi, some complimentary toiletries, coffee &coffee maker, cork screw, many lamps, great system of curtains, bath tub and shower, etc.). The hotel itself also had many amenities: there are three dining options there ( award winning restaurant, moderate restaurant, and bar fare), a spa and hairdresser in the basement, a bar/lounge with happy hour, a polite and helpful staff, a tourist shop, etc.
The hotel had complimentary breakfast, with many options and great food. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room we had was extremely outdated, it looked like my classroom in public school in the early 90's, with tile and colors from the 60's.
The service is great, along with it being easily accessible to the area without being right in downtown/touristy area. View is pretty nice of the city from afar too. We enjoyed the hotel for 4 days while doing day trips around the ring road then walking to the nightlife or hotel bar in the evenings. The staff is pretty accommodating to any needs - the bartending staff had a real knowledge of the area and great tips. I would maybe stay here again, but bring my own pillows next time. It is a bit outdated in terms of decor - but the real issue is the pillows. There was nothing to them and it left us with terrible neck strain. Wifi didn't work in our 6th floor room, but they tried to accommodate by placing a hotspot nearby - yet removed it before the end of our stay.
- Great price - 10 minute walk to downtown - Good breakfast - Good wifi - Very worn linens and furniture - Bed was not the most comfortable
Breakfast buffet included with room. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Free parking.
The rooms we stayed in were clean and well-kept, the staff was very courteous and the location is ideal. If you're not afraid of a little walking (or if you're from NYC and think nothing of it) then you'll be pleased by how quickly you can get to the city center without using the buses or the very expensive cabs. The view was lovely and the restaurant on the ground floor was a very enjoyable meal and reasonably priced compared to the normal Icelandic fare. We stayed at the hotel for slightly more than a week and used it as a staging point for a variety of tours. I mention this because it seems like a fairly common practice here, and tour drivers will actually come into the lobby and collect you. In our case one of the tours was cancelled and the hotel staff handled all the logistics for rescheduling it. Our reservation came with access to their daily breakfast buffet, which is quite large and served as a great meal to get us started before our tours. Like many homes and hotels in iceland, this building gets its hot water directly from a hot water system below ground. There are some places you might stay that get their hot water from a local geothermal plant. This is not one of them. This means that the Saga's hot water has a slight sulfur smell to it. It's perfectly safe and even drinkable, but the taste and the smell is not pleasant. Knowing this ahead of time would not have made me cancel my reservation, but I think this kind of thing is good to know before you arrive. Laundry is expensive. I sent down about two weeks' worth of Tshirts, socks, and underwear for a single person and it ran about 70 USD. We would still rather have used the local laundry than packing twice as many clothes, but that price stings a bit, especially for simple cotton garments.
Helpful staff, nice view from our room The hotel is extremely outdated and our room was dilapidated and tiny. No space to even turn around, horrible bed (with a dent down the middle, so my friend and I kept rolling into each other), cracks in the walls and ceiling, water/rust blocking the light from the ceiling fixture, peeling paint, cheap/ineffective shower curtain, windows that rattled, etc. We didn't complain or ask to change rooms because I can't imagine other rooms are any better. This hotel is a bit creepy and at least 10 years past necessary renovations. It was supposed to be a splurge and a treat for ourselves after 10 days of guesthouses, but was by far our worst accommodation in Iceland. Really disappointing for a Radisson Blu and for the amount we spent.
Staff was great. Good location but a 15 min walk to the city center with its shops and eateries. Rooms were "used" at best. A lot of wear and tear and small holes and dents in walls and doorways. Some non functioning amenities and even issues with one of the elevator banks.
The staff The outdated hotel with drafty windows
The staff were very accomodating, and were happy to greet us, even when a flight cancellation put us in at one in the morning.
It was clean, quiet, central...perfect for us
Very well located, clean, the owner was very kind and helpful, modern decoration and furniture/fittings.
Very comfortable and clean rooms with all modern amenities in the shared kitchen and bath. The modern Scandinavian design of the rooms looks just like in the posted pictures. The location is very convenient in a small quiet street in walking distance of the center of Reykjavik. No staff at all. The owner who sublets these rooms lives somewhere else so you should only book these rooms if you do not need assistance during your trip. Also, you need to be able to mount the stairs as the rooms are located on the 2nd floor without elevators.
Beds okay No one there when arriving. No breakfast but they advertice for it, bathroom (enter shower is dangerous, mirror too high, sink too small), thin wall's, noice. Steep stairway. Tv very small. No radio.
Very cosy little place. We stayed in the self contained studio which had a lovely king sized bed with super comfy pillows and quilt. The room had a small kitchen which we didn't use and a decent sized bathroom. Great location, walking distance to everything. We didn't arrive until after midnight and they were waiting to let us in. This is a self contained guest house though so there is nothing really in the way of services, which suited us just fine. Would stay again.
Nice location. Good car parking. Friendly staff/owner. Clean, tidy. Good facilities. Quiet area. Ran out of toilet paper and none anywhere in rooms.
We booked a private double but were given our own fully equipped apartment. The wifi signal was quite weak, but otherwise we loved it!
the outstanding personal service and helpfulness of the staff, as well as the ideal location in Reykjavik
The guest house was newly renovated and very clean. I liked that the owners lit candles in our room before we arrived. Gave it a homey feel. Some suggestions for improvement would be to have a bigger sign in front of the Guesthouse as it was not immediately obvious. Would also suggest a better shower curtain in the bathroom as it is difficult to shower without wetting the floor for other guests.
Very expensive. Very poor room in a different building to the hotel.
The Staff was very kind and they were always willing to help. Is very well located, 3 blocks from the city center. The room was not confortable at all, very old and broken bed. Bad smell in the bathroom.
very friendly staff and simple & cozy room
a very helpful receptionist: Faruk the small size of the room, cleanliness, no toilet paper, leaking toilet, no fan in the bathroom which made the whole room steamy and smell of sulfur.
convenience, friendly staff
Breakfast was good, hotel was quiet I did not think the bedsheets were very clean - I was a little worried the room might have bedbugs. I think the rooms should be kept cleaner
The location was great. Breakfast was decent - typical European continental layout. The rooms were very small - especially the double bed room. The two twin bed room was better. Only one television channel worked. No alarm clock. Tiny bathroom with no shower separation.
Friendly, helpful staff and central location.
The location is very good it´s in the heart of Reykjavik adn no need to take taxi to go the night life. Yes - it was one thing that i didn´t knew... that was about i booked via booking.com and i used my Visa card to pay via internet... But when i came to the hotel - the manager wanted to have my visa again and said that i haven´t paid for the hotel when i booked at booking.com - that was only insurance he said...
Location and value Rooms are quite small and sparsly furnished
Oddsson was a total fantasy for me. The staff was unbelievably kind and generous, the view was incomparable, and the friends I made there were genuine and beautiful people. I cannot thank Oddsson enough for the adventure it gave to me. There was absolutely nothing I would have changed about my stay. Nothing.
Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The price was right! Breakfast was very satisfying. The staff were very pleasant. With 10 beds and a check out time of 10:00 AM I had a problem getting into the toilet. I suggest that there be an alternative access to use another toilet if someone is showering and dressing in a locked bathroom! A suggestion: Please inform new hostlers how to turn the light switch off. I came in from the airport and went into room at 2:00 AM. Put the light on but could not shut it. At some point a 'sleeper' go up and showed me to press it twice!
