Electronic glitch without potential for resolution
Pros: I have worked with Kayak before, and had a good experience
Cons: I booked through Kayak - rerouted to carrentals.com. I checked the date of rental multiple times before paying for the car, because I was traveling to my father's funeral and it was important to get the date correct. Despite checking multiple times, when I got rerouted, the date changed electronically without me changing it. At the point of booking, there was no chance of resolution. Kayak won't resolve because it was rerouted through carrentals.com. Carrentals.com won't resolve because I had a Hertz confirmation, they just told me to go through Hertz. Hertz would not resolve because we prepaid through carrentals.com. So I have had to contest the charge on my credit card because there is no path to resolution. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Bait & Switch
Pros: Nothing, the counter help was helpless, the manager was apathetic
Cons: Asked for a GM product, was forced to take a Ford that was much less than the GM product reserved and paid for. There were several GM products in the lot but the counter help and manager were more interested in their small talk and food rather than serving the client. You know the person that pays the bills so they can have a job. I will not likely use Hertz again because it hurts. Hurts the wallet, the quality of vehicles available, gas milage, slooooooow pick up process, and the "client does all the work" return process. For a moment I thought they were going to ask that we vacuum, wash, change the oil, and clean the windows as well.

Pros: Couldn't have asked for better. I had quite a bit of traveling to do over the holidays and the unlimited miles sure helped. The vehicle I had was brand new, not even 500miles on it and had a great 4 wheel drive on it was I was traveling in MI during the winter.
Cons: The Price: I originally paid for the rental online and was unaware that I had not paid for the insurance, and was charged more than I expected.

No car available when I arrived
Cons: I arrived later than my pickup time because of flight delays and they didn't have a car for me. So rather than upgrading me they had me wait. I was already late to the funeral I was going to because of my flight delays. They said it was my fault because I didn't arrive at the pickup time I had stated in my reserrvation.

Pros: Very friendly customer service
Cons: Trying to find the location of the rental car desk was not the easiest if you're arriving locally (not flying in). The car return location is clearly labeled however the pick up is not.

Pros: That the rental office was at the airport. Very convenient and very good rate. Loved the car, a Mazda 3.
Cons: Had to read the manual to figure out how to start the engine with a keyless fob. No problems after that!
Pros: Pickup/Dropoff in Grand Rapids and Chicago were handled by kind service oriented people!

Pros: Was nice that they upgraded for free.
There was a short wait at pick up and the guy working at the National counter had to cover Enterprise as well. I did not think it was a big deal. Maybe that is why they upgraded.
I'm used to driving a Toyota minivan, so it didn't seem spacious to me, though I know it was a good car. So I was happy to be upgraded.
Wish I could have dimmed the navigation system. I felt like I had a flashlight in my eyes at night.

Full Size Fun Size
Pros: The color.
Cons: Given a car that had been driven up from Florida without service. Total monopoly at GRR, two companies split ownership of six agencies. No good luck at this airport. Reserved a full size, but got the basic model Nissan Altima. It had to pair bluetooth with a third party app on the phone, big no-no, didn't have heated seats, and the driving quality was terrible. Car was sluggish to respond to steering, and accelerating felt clear the car had been burned-in it's use down in Florida and up to Michigan where I rented it. Again tho, duopoly controls the rental cars so you can't complain. Avoid this small down airport if you can. Disgraceful.

Over charged $200
Pros: I fortunately was looking at my bank statement earlier than normal and caught the added $200 on my bill. I will always take the time to have them print my receipt when I return the car. I can't trust they will do it correctly

Pros: Every aspect was great.
Cons: While they couldn't know this, I find Chrysler product to be horrible cars. Every year the various worst 10 car lists that come out have at least 4 of them on their lists. If they;s stop carrying them r at least assign them only to people who request one that would be great.

Weird Service- Didnt like the car
Pros: I liked that i didnt have to drive my car
Cons: I thought the service was terrible.
The rep asked me if i had a debit or credit card that wasnt reloadable- I use Simple, which is a real bank that is technology driven and is used by many in the younger generation. It was demeaning that he acted as though my card was a reloadable visa gift card. I told him it was a real bank, and he said, really? because i just googled it. Then he proceeded to "google it" again, until he was satisfied that it was a real bank. The car was a ford focus- i dont know what the deal was, but every time i started to move from a stop it felt like it was going to stall. All in all, I have had much better service with Hertz, and will probably stick with them.

Make sure you check your p/u location!
Pros: The car was fine. We received a slight upgrade from what we reserved because they were out of compact cars. The staff at the agency was friendly and helpful.
Cons: When I made the reservation I put the GRR airport location into Kayak search. I didn't realize that Kayak changed the p/u location to 10 miles from the airport. When we went to Enterprise desk at the airport they informed us that they could not shuttle us. They did offer us a rental at the airport for double the price. So we had to get a cab for 20 bucks each way. It's partly my fault for not checking the rental location address. It's also Kayak's fault for not making it clear that our p/u location was not the airport. It ended up being ok. It just added stress to an already stressful trip.
Cons: my experiance with the grand rapids office was satisfactory they had a pleasant helpfull counter personal. clean office and fast service.

Car was great, but ruined by service
Pros: The car was clean and ready to go when I got there. It ran well, and was fuel efficient. Did not smell of stale smoke, and there were no mechanical issues.
Cons: This was the worst car rental experience I have ever had. It started Sunday morning when I was picking up my car. I was greeted at the desk by a gentleman "in training". He was wearing a dirty pair of jeans, an old Detroit Lions Tee Shirt, and a baseball cap. Very unprofessional. After fumbling with my information for a while, a lady finally came around to help out. After some more training and a lot of waiting (35 minutes!), I was shown my car. After I checked out the vehicle I went back in to finalize the rental. I was informed at that time that I was not able to park my personal car on site. What?! I'm renting a car from you, but yet I have to find somewhere else to park? This was a huge inconvenience to my and my family. The lady said I could go park at McDonalds down the road because "the manager there is cool with it". I have two problems with this: 1) There is no proof that McDonalds or any other private property where I choose to park would not tow my vehicle if left unattended for 4 straight days and 2) There is absolutely no notice that this is the case when booking the vehicle. So not only do I have to have my wife drop everything to come get my car, but she also has to inconvenience a friend to come down and get my car so it does not get towed. THEN, they have to drive my car back to McDonalds before I get home so its ready for me. Not very easy to do when she works full time and we have two young children. To top it all off, it was pouring rain, so I had quite a ways to walk after moving my car from the Budget lot to the McDonalds lot.
The car was clean, and ran well, but that is about the only highlight of my experience. Your customer service continued to disappoint me when I came to return my vehicle. I filled up the gas tank to the top less than a half mile away. When asked if it was full, I said yes. The same lady asked if I was sure because they will charge me $9.89 if they take it there and ANY gas fits in. I explained to her that I filled it to the top, but it might be possible to fit a tenth of a gallon in there or so. She said it was up to me, but I will most likely get charged. So I am basically forced to go put more gas in (which ended up being 0.24 gallons) and bring it back. I made sure it was overflowing from the nozzle so I did not get charged any further.
Hopefully you can tell that I am less than impressed with my experience this week. I want to let you know that this type of customer service (and overall policy of not being able to park on site) is ridiculous. My wife and I have rented from Budget/Avis quite a few times in the past, but will now be reconsidering our options. Even if you happen to be the most inexpensive, we will most likely choose another company so that when we travel for work or vacation we feel valued and appreciated.

Bait and switch rate
Pros: Ease of booking
Cons: Nothing I received or viewed said anything about a mileage charge being added to the price quoted yet I was charged an additional $40 when I returned the car. Budget says this is a Kayak issue. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

Budget car rental
Pros: Booked off kayak and was a great deal, brand new car with 153 miles, cute little white Kia
Cons: The headlights did not automatically come on at night and I never thought about that since most cars do that, I should have checked that out before taking off during the day, was in downtown Chicago at the time...yikes!

Haven't rented a car in decades...
Pros: I liked the car I received instead of the Ford Focus I had reserved months in advance.
Cons: Grand Rapids: The agent spoke so fast I didn't know what I was getting or what was optional. I didn't understand the prepaid fuel option, but chose it anyway.
Pros: The customer service was awesome. Everyone we talked with was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The cost could have been a little lower, but the customer service helped make up for it.

Ease of access to northern michigan
Pros: Price is fine and airport to airport with no drop off fee great. Agents really pleasant especially the young man in GRR
Cons: Not that dirty but still hadn't been cleaned with dirt from last person's luggage in back. Also last customer only filled the gas until it appeared full but wasn't really full.

Pros: Car was fine. Clean and in good working order. No complaints.
Cons: Price was high.
Turning in car at Dubuque, Iowa airport was difficult. Drop off lot was recently relocated and not enough information given on where the new location was. No signs in parking lot. No one answered any phone calls. Good thing the airport is small - we just went inside and asked Avis clerk. She was a nice person - said lots of people are having trouble finding the new return location. Is it too complicated to put a sign in the parking lot??

Cons: I was told that I had to purchase the fuel coverage, which was news to me. I've always declined the fuel, bc I fill it up myself all the time. After telling the Agent in Grand Rapids many times I didn't want it, he said I had no choice and when I filled it up to bring my receipt up in returning the CAR, which didn't make sense.
When I returned the car in Battle Creek, I told the Agent and she was dumbfounded and said they should have done that in the first place. This was a terrible experience.

Misinformed and charges extra
Pros: The car was nice and clean
Cons: The fact that the lady at the counter never mentioned to us that we will be charges extra 750$
Cons: My flight into Grand Rapids (MI) airport was delayed. The Alamo rental desk was abandoned. Thankfully, both Avis and Enterprise stayed to accommodate us late arrivals. The Alamo folks knew we were coming - albeit late - and chose to go home. Won't rent from Alamo again,

Bad USB and No Map
Pros: I liked what the Vehicle was and able to seat.
It did ride comfortably
Cons: I did not like there was Mapping Program.
When I plugged in my into the USB port, for charging or using my GPS on the phone, I had a HUGE problem using anything on the main display. It said USB Error, and the screen kept flashing from one to the other. Once I unplugged it, the radio and other functions would work.
I think either it is a design flaw, or something wrong with the wiring. It was not very easy to use.
I probably will make sure I never get that vehicle again, or at the very least, try out the USB Port, before I leave the Rental Agency.

Cons: The car had a residual smell of a smoker and the windows had a film over them due to the rainex not being buffed out.

Pros: I liked the ease of pick up and return.
Cons: I did not like that I had ordered and economy car online and was given a truck, not a car, that was in no way in the economy class, and drank gas. I am not used to driving a truck, and it was somewhat dangerous for me being in a city I am not used to driving in.

Never got there
Pros: Never arrived in GRR. Had to switch to LANsing as flight to GRR was delayed longer than I wanted.
Refund was fast.
Cons: Alamo does not rent in Lansing. Had to switch car rentals.

Pros: We liked the comfort of the vehicle which is why we rented from Alamo. They had the vehicle we needed.
Cons: We rent a lot of cars. Never from Alamo previously. We are accustomed to our rentals being clean. This was not the case in this vehicle. We had clients that had to ride on seats that had what appeared to be dog hair (short white hairs) I tried my best to pick off what I could. When you open the doors there was a layer of dirt in all the door wells. Also dust on the console. We have never experienced that with any other car rental company.
