the bathroom was really dark with only lights over the wash basin. a large water stain on the ceiling was not very attractive!
Room very nice. cleanliness of room excellent. Staff friendly and helpful.Close to shops and visitor attractions.
At arrival we were met in the parking lot by a very friendly man tha helped us with our luggage. The staff at the receptiondesk was very nice. The room was exellent. In the bathroom we were delighted to see a rubber duckling on top of the towels across the bath! It's the little things that count!
The view of Edinburgh castle was out of this world.
Staff were lovely. Looking a bit tired. Desk in room had big scratch on it. Also, on a previous stay breakfast was on the top floor which was lovely. This time we were in the lower part of the ground floor restaurant. The continental breakfast choice was quite poor considering the price. The toast was merely warmed up bread and coffee wasn't particularly hot. My elderly parents in their 80s, who were also staying, were unable to shower as they couldn't get in or out of the very steep sided bath.
Convenience of location As I had a front room over a weekend, the noise from the pubs in Grassmarket was a bit much.
The views of Edinburgh
view of castle from hieghts restaurant, location of hotel No fridge in room no radio having to pay for breakfast having to pay for internet access lifts very poor (not updated since previous college use) no air conditioning control windows not double glazed - noise, draughts
Rapid sorting out/ upgrade when the door lock to out room failed The fact thaty the door lock failed
Ideal city location for theatre, dinining and shopping.
It has a great location, with lovely views of the castle and lots of food and bars nearby.
The hotel was modernly decorated and the rooms were of excellent quality and the food was of constant high standard
Very central to Edinburgh, very nice pubs nearby and easy walk to all of the tourist sections of the town. Very helpful staff and very nice breakfast.
Good locatioin, friendly staff, breakfast excellent, room comfortable Very small car park
We love the beds and the huge wide screen TV! It was a little far from Waverley station, had to climb up and down a hill to get to the hotel!
Helpful staff Modern decor and beautiful view of the castle Noisy guests sitting in the lounge area on 4th floor just outside our bedroom.
Hotel is better than i expect, warmer, clener, and quiet Breakfast is quit expensive, compering what you get.
Helpful staff, clean rooms, good location
Friendly staff. Very well appointed rooms
They had parking, toiletries were good the fridge was only a cooler and it would have been nice to have a proper cold fridge. Breakfast quite expensive.
The location of the hotel is fantastic. Everything one needs to see in Edinburgh is within walking distance. Our room was spacious and towards the back of the building, so there was no noise coming from Grassmarket at all although we stayed there for the weekend.
Excellent breakfast! Limited parking available
Good position close to city centre and university
Nice staff Did not get a separate bed for child (2years old) Poor kids playcorner
quality of room and first meal I thought the price of the breakfast was excessive at £19 for a hot breakfast.Went next door to Premier and got all you can east breakfast for £7.95. Also got breakfast in cafe just down the road for £4.95. This would put be off coming back. Maybe go to premier inn next door.
Room was very spacious, clean and overall good value for money. Location good also
Very nice room. Good sized bathroom. Excellent breakfast. As compared to most other hotels, the hot breakfast is part of the standard buffet. The dinner experience was not great. We tried Italian, Indian and Thai cuisine. Only the Thai cuisine was good.
The location is very good and the staff were friendly and attentive. These were the redeeming features. Poor car parking facilities, breakfast was uninspiring, room was not particularly clean.
room service and cleanliness of room both excellent Decor could be modernised a bit. No sink in the toilet for washing hands
the staff brilliant with the children and nothing was to much trouble for them
Breakfast was good, whirlpool was good. Air con was not great and swimming pool is very small
I arrived from the US a 6:45 am. I got to the Residence Inn at about 8 am-well before standard check-in. Sara at the front desk was awesome! She offered me coffee and breakfast, and to watch my luggage until my room became ready. And at 10:30am, she gave me my room keys. Thank you for being so very friendly and accommodating!
Some of the best staff at a hotel I have ever encountered. Extremely helpful and friendly. Good location, but fabulous facility, big modern room, great shower. Highly recommend for all travelers, especially those that will be in Edinburgh for multiple days. Really good breakfast, as well.
The staff was extremely friendly, with the location close to eateries for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night nightcaps. The free WiFi was excellent with easy connectivity. I was visiting for the Fringe Festival and International Book Fair. The hotel was a perfect location. There is a bit of walking to visit Edinburgh, but I left feeling quite healthy which is a good thing!
nearnes to city centre poor television service and cramped condition
My teenage son and I stayed during Fringe and were delighted by the modern (steel and wood) look and youthful (comic book) appeal. The decor says "fun"...the room is simple and comfortable.. the towels are big and fluffy...the beds are firm and "fresh-looking"...the bathroom rain shower was heavenly. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Don't read old reviews. Don't book here if you need a lot of room, stuffy luxury or old-fashioned amenities. We couldn't figure out the TV, but who needs that anyway!
Everything could not fault, would stay again no problem.
other decent pubs nearby front of hotel eg;doors" disgusting" badly needs painting. biddy mulligans bar next door ok during the day food grand but beware if your over 20! bar is more disco bar than irish and by 8 o clock packed and no hope of seating.few decent ones on the street if you must stay here.
Location, we were attending a wedding in a near by hotel
Location was close to castle and High Street. Good pub next door. Room was over a pub. Not a place to get some rest. The pub closes after midnight, but patrons do not leave streets for hours. room and bed were small.
The fun, funky vibe and central location were what attracted me to this hotel initially. However, there is a pub on the ground floor and our room was on the first floor directly over the bar where live music was played well into the night. When I requested a room change, they were fully booked but said I could change rooms the following day. Unfortunately, we weren't informed of the room change procedure and the room promised to us on the second night was given to someone else. Very disappointing. The hotel staff should be better trained to fully inform guests of room change policy. Also, guests should be warned at check-in that their room is over a pub that plays live music on Friday nights and offer them ear plugs in advance before they realize they can't sleep. The management did offer a gesture of compensation but really, had I been informed and been offered ear plugs on arrival, I would have actually enjoyed my stay. Other comments on the room: the sheets were clean and the bathroom also seemed clean but there were tons of dirty marks on the walls and dirty windowsills, which is not nice to see at hotel at this price point.
Excellent location. Very close to all the attractions. Surrounded by great restaurants and bars. Very rundown hotel. More like a hostel. Wallpaper peeling from hall and stairways. Dirty carpets on stairs.
The room was clean, pity about the rest of the hotel which could really do with a makeover.Tea and coffee making facilities were present which you often dont get in more expensive hotels! I was lucky to be on the 3rd floor away from the main square, which can be noisy. Make sure you look for this when booking. Its a convenient location but dont expect too much for your money.I was staying for one night and it was fine. I did have to wrestle with the heating though. Persevere and it will come on!!
it was near the royal mile overpriced for what was given, less than helpfull reception staff, en-suite in room was very cramped indeed
Relatively convenient location; pleasant, helpful staff; clean & comfortable Hotel exterior & surroundings are bland & a bit depressing
Good location, 5 mins walk from Kings Theatre and 15 mins from Princes Street Nothing bad we can say about this hotel. We would definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Very good service, clean place, good food, nice room, nice atmosphere
the freindlyness of the staff we ewre quickly booked in and a booking for a restaurant arranged. no
Quiet - great views over city Room was stuffy but it was after a few days of very high temps for Scotland - a fan was provided which helped
The hotel, staff and location were wonderful and met all our needs. We had a great time - the only slight problem was the key card for the lift - we never mastered the knack!
Staff at Premier Inn, Lauriston Place, Edinburgh were particularly helpful Initial mix uip over booking but resolved
The staff were amazing! They were really helpful, you could ask them anything and they would find out for you. We got snowed in and they offered whatever help they could and were really nice about letting us come back when we had already checked out. They were also very friendly and caring. Nothing really important, just that the TV was lower than the bed so it wasnt very comfortable to lie down while watching it. ANd the heater didnt stay on for long enough,
relaxed atmosphere nice food lovely staff
Excellent location,helpful staff,good breakfast.
quiet room end of corridor black mold around tap area no working extraction room quite small in the roof bathroom very compact very little useable surface. bar area very poorly furnished uncomfortable hard bar stools uninviting only place to sit was in the reception area
The hotel's location is excellent, just 5 mins walk from Edinburgh castle. Very overpriced, 160 pounds for 1 night in a much less than average room, with no breakfast in a hotel with no leisure facilities. Not impressed.
Location was good. Well kept up hotel. Good value.
great location, great food window in the bedroom wouldnt open, the room could get a bit stuffy
Location is good for Edinburgh city centre. If you arrive on a Saturday afternoon, you can park on the lane beside the hotel and provided you pay up until 6.30pm on the Saturday, you don't have to pay for Sunday No toiletries apart from a wall mounted partially filled hand wash. Very uncomfortable beds in a very dated room. Would never stay here again.
cleanliness of room & attention to detail, also staff were friendly & helpful. no - it was fine.
Location, size of room, internet problems
very friendly, helpful staff. our room was quite small with tiny windows also dirty carpets in the corridors
Rooms were spacious and clean and quite close to the centre of Edinburgh. Good internet access. I booked two twin rooms but was given two double rooms. This was corrected when I complained.
kitching is fantastic. everything you want you can find there!!!
I like the quiet ambiance and the safety it offers and the superb helpful attitude ot the reception people. Well I was kind of disappointed that I wasn't informed that there will be no soaps and hot kettle! The city is so cold and a cup of hot drink will help a lot specially that there is no breakfast offered in the rates!
Great location, clean and comfortable room (even though a bit on the small side). The mattress was not so comfortable and you could feel the springs.
The room was a great value for the money. Bed was comfortable, clean room, was in a good location. Not that it was bad, but rather more inconvenient...parking near the hotel was expensive and I had to park away at a parking garage.
Great location and a comfy place to sleep when enjoying the festival. Basic but clean. For the price during festival peak season good. Should not really be classed as hotel as essentially student halls being used for festival as such it has none of the facilities you would expect from a hotel. You stay in rooms in flats and as such you are at the mercy of your flatmates. I had a large group of Spanish students who held a party one night, after which the communal kitchen was a mess.
