Needs a decent bar
Great central location. An elegant old building but the rooms didn't have any of the disadvantages you sometimes get in old buildings.
The on site parking, the rooms are very nice and it has a great location, I have stayed there many times. The very surly woman receptionist, afternoon 15/7, who met us on arrival. Beyond the obligatory 'bonjour' there was not one word of welcome or pleasantness a big black mark. I know it is the french way, no wonder the Irish are considered so friendly but it was a pain in the you know where never the less.
Fantastic location, friendly and efficient staff, lovely hotel Air conditioning was not effective enough
Position of hotel was excellent. Staff pleasant but not very warm. No cable channels on TV. Breakfast far too expensive. Mini bar not working and contained just 4 small bottles of courvoisier
Central location and very quiet.
Situated by the Old Harbour and the Old Town of La Rochelle and at the same time a bit off side from it all.
Excellent location in easy walking distance of everything yet quiet at night, parking available at a small supplement at the hotel, spacious room. Our room overlooked the car park/small garden, and over the harbour beyond, but most rooms overlook the internal courtyward - not so nice. Although modernised, room a bit tired - but the good much outweighted the bad.
Nice ambience - welcoming foyer - late night cup of tea - lovely courtyard for relaxed smoke - sitting area separate from foyer.
Very convenient for all areas of the town. Great to be able to park the car safely in their own car park and walk into town or the port area which were both only about 3 or 4 minutes walk away. The hotel was very comfortable, the facilities (shower products and hairdryer) were better than I had expected. N/A
Friendly staff, good location and excellent buffet breakfast. The mattress on our bed was far too hard, not good for either a bad back or a good night's sleep.
Although the Hotel is 15mins walk from bus station it is quite central between bus station & train station to allow you to travel throughout the area. It is also not in the centre but close to it & the harbour area. It is quiet but within a short walk to the town centre/marina, restaurant area. I think it would be better if the breakfast was included in the price as 10euros is quite steep.
The welcome, accomodation, breakfast
The close proximity of the hotel to the centre of La Rochelle and it's attractions, restaurants and shopping. We did not need to use the car at all. Breakfast was also better than normal continental fare. The aluminium roller shutters were noisy in even the slightest wind and became very noisy unless rolled up, when the windows were open, which was needed because our room was a little air-less.
Clean, comfortable with friendly & efficient staff Nothing at all
Convenience, parking, good breakfast
Nice hotel in the old city. Very friendly people and godd parking facilty in the crowded center. Rooms to the streetside somewhat noisy due to the active nightlife. Leaving you two options: either go and party or ask for a room at the back of the hotel. We went for option two which was no problem.
Thought that everyone was very friendly. The breakfast was good value for the money. The location was great.
Close to the harbour and restaurants The interior was much nicer than the exterior photograph suggests Nothing. We thoroughly enjoyed staying there
The hotel was very good and the restaurant... would have liked some help with luggage on departure ny mother is 88 and I tweaked my bag lugging the suitcases around to the car.!
Location was brilliant-very central but peaceful at the same time. Overlooking the port, close to the train station, aquarium, local amenities. Car rental on your doorstep. Staff very helpful.
Spacious room and en suite. Nice comfortable bed. We were on the fifth floor behind the main hotel building, so it was quiet but we could still see the sea over the rooftops which was lovely. Swimming pool was nice and deep with amazingly comfortable seat shaped lilos. Perfectly located beside the harbour, very close to restaurants, the town and bus and train stations.
The restaurant I didn't know abaut parking in this hotel
the location was too expensive for the rooms offered which were very basic.
The location was super. Very close to the harbour and street entertainments at night. We enjoyed the poolside tables for reading etc. There was only one chair in the room - should be two. Breakfast poor value - no muesli, terrible machine coffee, the hot food was awful, marmalade always hidden away. In town, we bought a very good 3 course meal in the evening for less that we paid for the breakfast. Also, when we booked it was advertised as 13 euros, but we were charged 14 on departure.
Excellent location on the quayside. Polite & helpful staff. Sometimes noisy night club behind hotel.
Yes, we liked this hotel. It's loceted very good.
The location No
A spacious appartment in a central location Poor quality breakfast
A beautiful building with lovely antique furniture, very close to old port and lots of restaurants, lovely ambience would stay here again
the location, in the middle of the centre
A basic hotel in a good location.
Clean, comfortable hotel. Efficient helpful staff. Good parking
Very convenient to the city centre and attractions Swimming pool was too cold to be useful
the room was comfortable, .very convenient hotel for overnight stays not to be reccommended for holiday hotel on arrival and departure served by far the surliest receptionist rest of staff in contrast very helpful food very poor best to eat out
The hotel room was fresh and clean and the location was great. Was given a smoked in room initially which should have been non smoking. Bar helping staff staff were sometimes inexperienced considering the price. Breakfast could have been included.
The staff were very friendly & accommodating. The location of the hotel was perfect & the hotel was excellent. no
Novotel standards, swimming pool, comfy beds, cleanliness of hotel, friendliness, bath in the room, enclosed private car park Can't think of any
Staff were friendly and attentive. Room was comfortable and well furnished. Location is excellent, close to the old town and harbour, nice and quiet in its parkland setting.
Cleaniness, comfort, friendless, breakfast Meals were expensive in comparasion to the harbour
The buffet breakfast was very good. The hotel was conveniently located and the car-parking was free.
Friendliness of staff and professional approach. immediate response to problem with safe There should be a basin in with the toilet enabling to wash hands without having to walk around to bathroom, this would prevent spread of germs and inconvenience
The hotel is situated is situated in a quiet area beside a park and yet is within easy walking distance of the town centre and harbour.
Very well placed, central hotel with plenty to see and do on the doorstep. Helpful staff, clean rooms (basic but comfortable), booked a triple room and got 2 interconnected doubles for same price which was good. Would book again for city break. Some rooms and shared areas looked dark and pokey.
Hotel in an excellant position - Ideal for the various boat trips, shops and a lovely harbour location together with all the street entertainment. Unfortunately there was an undesirable fishy smell in the lobby and lift areas which obviously eminates from the fish resteraunt next door.
Very helpful staff and excellent service. Good in-room facilities. Air conditioning a real bonus. Only limitation was a lack of a safe in reception large enough to take a laptop.
the location was excellent..the room was quite .....a good hotel in a beautiful city, but not for a week room was basic...no wardrobe..compact if not small rooms
Location is the best we have ever tried. In the middle of everything.
Wonderful location. Great food area. Horrific "free" internet service.
No on-site parking.

Very convenient location in the heart of old La Rochelle, right by the old port. Very clean, very friendly, very quiet. One of the best old town hotels I've stayed at in France.
Location of hotel couldn't have been better, just around the corner from the old port and lots of restaurants and shops but just far away enough that there wasn't much noice and had a great sleep! Room was pretty basic but the bed was comfortable and the bed linen was clean. Rooms were basic and tv had only French channels.
Shower & toilet facilities were very good & room was clean & presentable. The third bed was only a sofa bed which was't adequate & the bed sheet was of poor quality & had a corner strap that was broken. The room could have been larger for 3 people sharing - I.e a seperate room/area for the double bed. Also the Free car parking was full so we had to park in the Public car park by the beach & pay. The map directions for the free parking wasn't large enough; making them difficult to find.
Most important is the fantastic situation in the old town. Can't be better. Well for that price, I resquest a personal toilet in my room
The staff where pleasent and helpful. For the money u pay the hotel should be clean and it was not, when u walked up the stairs there was a smell from the old carpets.
Great location, next to central market but quiet street. Nice older place with updated (but small as usual in France) rooms. Noon checkout time and very good breakfast till 11 a.m.on a Sunday! Nothing, really was great although no elevator or air con could be an issue for some people.
Excellent location. None.
La Rochelle is a great place for a family holiday, and the hotel is well placed to explore the old town and port with beaches nearby. Great restaurants and atmosphere. One problem. Although the hotel staff were friendly the basin in our room was blocked and in spite of asking to fix it a number of times the problem was not resolved. This meant that the basin was unhygienic and often couldn't be used.
Very good traditional French hotel. Fantastic breakfast, homemade jams ,great patisserie ,good location centre of town but quiet.5 mins walk to seafront .No parking at hotel but secure public parking only a minute away. Would highly recommend(no air con but good old French shutterinhg does the job)
Old style French townhouse/hotel. A lot of charm but not everyones cup of tea. Couldnt get satellite tv.
Clean and tidy Room was a bit small for three people
Central location 1 hotel was all locked up when we arrived at 2115,with a phone number to ring on the door.2.breakfast poorly supervised had to ask as milk etc kept running out.
Hotel close to Old Town Both rooms on third floor, no lift Double room very small. Bed hard and 'squeeky'. En suite was separeted from bedroom by a curtain. Shower head had to be held as only in one position. Single room extremely small. No air conditioning. Bedsheet stained
Would highly recommend this hotel . Staff were welcoming, knowledable and v helpful about the region. Got the romantic family room which had lovely balcony . Children loved squeezing their own orange juice in morning. Location perfect .safe and cheap carpark just around the corner. no
Fabulous, large, light airy room with stunning view of the Vieux Bassin. Super-comfortable bed. Excellent bathroom with Niagara-like shower! Polite and courteous staff. Daily servicing of room done to perfection. Too many stairs, but staff carried luggage up to room with a smile.
Location WC extremely small (Separate from shower room and washhand basin)). Constant unpleasant odour from WC
Brilliant location in La Rochelle, great room
From a very warm welcome, tourist info, to a fresh, bright room with a magnificent view across the old port of La Rochelle, this is a lovely hotel. All the rooms have recently been refurbished, the management and afternoon receptionist are charming and helpful. Recommend the hotel very highly indeed.
It's central position.
Location No safety deposit box
The location was perfect and the room was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was not available to us in the room as the table was too small and there were only two chairs for three people. The toilet cubical was too small - unusable by anyone I would imagine over 1,80m and I am 1.80m!
Just in front of La Rochelle's harbour and towers, calm, well equiped in class and very clean, convenient breakfast in the rooms. Centre of La Rochelle is a difficult place to drive, and the parking is well 10 min walking away (not that easy with the luggage).
Very clean and quiet hotel excellent location. En suit was immaculate. Generally well maintained.
Location was excellent. Easy to find and close to the bus departure points and close to the old interesting part of the town. CLean and practical room I would have liked tea and coffee tray in the room.
Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of october and had a fantastic time. what a cute little hotel! It's in a perfect location and everything you will want to enjoy on a short city break in la rochelle is literally right around the corner...2minute walk to the vieux port, 20 sec walk to some of la rochelle's best restaurants, 10min walk to place du verdun. room was quite compact but beautifully decorated and a very comfortable bed. the staff were lovely and very welcoming. what I liked most was that everything was immaculately clean, oh and the beautiful rooftop terrace. I would definitely reccommend this wee hotel very highly and encourage anyone going to la rochelle for a short break to stay there! I have very little to complain about here. the only thing I didn't enjoy was that our toilet was in a seperate room to the wash basin/shower room and you have to bend down every time you walk into the bedroom because the entrance is very low.(i'm only 5.1" so I just made it)
We had a lovely stay at Hotel en Ville- will definitely be back-its 2 minutes from the towers- and in a lovely quiet area too- the best of both worlds. It seems a lot of thought was put in to the decor etc- simple but we really liked it. Only thing I wasnt keen on was the ensuite- sliding door doesnt give a lot of privacy- but this was only a small thing and otherwise we couldn't fault the hotel
It was clean , Great location .The Hotel is very tastefully done , modern breakfast was available, the staff were very pleasant . The room was to small , no wardrobe , no soap , shower cap or shower gel (although i did ask for a shower gel and got one) , it was noisy .We felt that the room was just to small and for 2 days it was ok but i wouldn`t go for a week or two .
Superb location, very friendly family run hotel, crisp, clean, comfortable rooms. A great starting point to enjoy La Rochelle from and we would definitely stay at Un Hotel en Ville again. Highly recommended. Due to location parking is limited but public parking in front of the hotel is available. A consideration rather than a problem as we didn't have problems finding a space each day.
The hotel was small, yet stylish. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful.
Great location ..A little difficult to find...New Hotel very clean and comfortable..Good breakfast and really nice owners..
Easy to find, car park straight outside front door, good value excellent location close to bars restaurants etc but set back in a quiet square.
Very helpful and friendly owners None
The location was very central, staff helpful, good room, breakfast fine coffee / teamaking facilities would improve the stay
Excellent breakfast and very friendly and helpful owner. The room was a little small for two people though adequate the a two night stay
The convenient location close to the old section of town and the promonard/port and seaside.
Very good location close to old port and shops/restaurants. The hotel has very recently been refurbished and so is very clean and fresh. Proprietors are friendly and breakfast good value.
reasonable basic hotel in a good location.
Good position, easy walk to all sites.Well refurbished, clean and spacious rooms. Near Aquarium with handy parking. Fantastic triple glazing...no sound from outside. Well pleased.
Hotel recently redecorated in chic neutrals, comfortable, clean, very close to port and town centre. Choice of breakfast or just coffee and croissant. Double windows keep out street noise but then stuffy as no aircon. Dodgy hips avoid 3rd floor as no lift.
Proximity to the centre of La Rochelle Lack of information about where to park and the distance from the hotel. Not good for elderly or disabled travellers.
location and price
It was reasonably comfortable and the staff were fairly helpful in answering enquiries about the town It was further from the railway station than I expected
The location of this hotel is excellent, very close to the bus station, the market, lots of shops and restaurants and just a short stroll to the harbour. We got a very quiet room with a small balcony facing the garden; the room was ok and the bathroom spacious. The hotel staff was very helpful and nice.
The Hotel is in a quit street near the market.
The owners were very friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel was superb - right in the centre of La Rochelle, close to the wonderful market.
Basic but clean and comfortable, good central location, quiet - very helpful staff.
the location was very good. the staff were very welcoming and it was a clean room it was very warm no air conditioning
Very good position in centre of La Rochelle Bathroom was not very clean and smelled strongly of damp
The staff were extremely helpful and the hotel is very convenient to the train station. I was only having a quick overnight stay to visit Mont St. Michel so it was very comfortable. The breakfast was quite extensive as well
