New and clean.
breackfast 19 euros very expensive bar excellent
Superb rooms, and perfect location! I found some of the staff members at the reception desk a bit intimidating.
Good location. Comfortable, ckean room. Good size
Pleasant and friendly staff
Friendliness of staff. Good variety of breakfast available. Professional look throughout the hotel, all aspects. The location is amazing, so close to so many bars and restaurants. Bus stop just around the corner, which you can take straight to the football stadium.
Nice room isolation
Hotel was very nice, modern and rooms spacious and stylish The staff are abismal. Receptionists act as if you are annoying them, restaurant staff are rude and do not ever smile, the only nice ones are the cleaning ladies. This doesnt normally bother me so much but they were just so depressingly unpleasant it did affect my stay without a doubt. They should sack the lot of them and start again with the amount of people who need a job in Spain at the moment!
Service, location and view were great. Rooms clean and comfortable and within easy walking distance to metro. Rates were very good as well.
Room size, good A/C, and location The shower doesn't have lights, very slippy, and water gets out of the tub when showering.
The location for Atocha & the museums & the metro was excellent. Also the buffet breakfast was very good.
Clean and comfortable hotel, placed very close to the main museums and well served by public means.
Excellent locality, comfortable bed, good food a few niggles,i.e non replacement of milk/coffee etc on night tray, we were a party of 4 couples, all in superior rooms but not all had the same facilities - one had no robes, one had only one bath towel etc.
everything worked ok...especially the shower ! Clean generous beds. Pleasant reception staff 4th floor room overlooked the main street below...very noisy. View was ok ( trees) and preferable to the interior facing rooms ( no decent view ) Prefer 7th floor next time. No UK TV stations ( BBC News 24 is NOT a TV station )
Almost everything A bit noisy
Nice rooms. Nothing significant.
Location is great. Very luxurious hotel. Highly recommend.
Front desk helpful, great tourist location shower temperature not steady or safe
Convenience for Atocha Station; good selection of international newspapers. Lacks atmosphere; staff not particularly helpful or friendly; no late night food or bar facilities.
good location near train station. very friendly staff
the location was great It has Wi Fi feee just in the lobby, and you need a different code eny time yo connect.
b&o electronics, comfortable but separate beds, deep carpets, well appointed bathroom even though no tub, facility was very quiet, staff was helpful, friendly and spoke decent English room lighting tried too hard for ambience, resulting in the lack of a good, bright reading lamp
Excellent location, great room, very clean, large, quiet, comfortable bed, clean, excellent breakfast, with the exception of one lady at the front desk the receptionist staff was very friendly.. I found the lady at the front reception very rude the way she talked to you, she talked down to you, very dissappointing.
We loved the central location. the staff was helpful and attentive. WE loved the in room shampoo and conditioner. Is it possible to get it in the USA?
The location was excellent. Very clea room, bed was very comfortable, bathroom well-equipped and very modern. Front office staff courteous, polite, and helpful. Hallways to room had a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke.
Splendid service.Very comfortable rooms. Excellent location. The rooms are too dark. More light would be nice.
Great location, great hotel for the price.
Location to downtown Room layout. Very cramped. Too many ammenities for room size
Smart hotel in very good location, good deal if booked in advance
the exceptional good breakfast and nice bathrooms
Outstanding location. Excellent value. Courteous service. Good laundry. Very good breakfast. Very nice bathroom, excellent shower, but the bathroom was very dark and position of the floor-mounted door stop was a hazard (several painful impacts with toes).
The location, the staff, the room decorations, the room service, the quiet at night and particularily the breakfast. hi speed internet, Rather small elevators [to be expected in a building of that age], A/C a bit undersized.
Clean, nice staff. Great location. Strongly recommended!
It's clean easy access hotel No food available in the afternoon (not even a sandwich)after our arrival.
Staff was unfriendly
Have stayed there before and was 'welcomed back'. It is ideally located, overall a very pleasant hotel. Excellent staff.
Great location. Beautiful old hotel. Concierge excellent. Breakfast very expensive. Staff was not well informed of the hours of restaurant.
its close proximity to museums and sites. the high cost for internet usage.
The location was perfect because our goal was to be able to visit the three major art museums within walking distance to our hotel. Parks, restaurants and shopping were also right there. The concierge was excellent in making flamenco arrangements for us. When I called ahead to check our reservation, the clerk answering the phone said that we would need to stay in one queen size bed and that to have twin beds would cost 500 euros per night. When we arrived, the registration clerk upgraded us to two twin beds at no extra cost.
Location of hotel Comfort of bed was spolt by squeaking everytime you moved in the bed!
The calm atmosphere and the beautiful interieur. Luxurious but still nice and comfortable. The price of two drinks was about the same as the price of one flight ticket back to Oslo . . . .. .
Great bed and amazing pillows....very quite despite its central location. Quite expensive breakfast (buffet) for what is offered.
Close to museums Over priced! Everything is outrageously expensive. Staff is not interested in the guest. No room facilities for heating water for coffee or tea. Not enough towels.
Service is excellent all around. The location is central and easy walk to popular plazas, a great park. Breakfast is amazing with self serve champagne!
Great view and beautiful suite on the 5th floor
friendly staff. When I needed to call an ambulance for my husband who was unwell they were efficient and helpful a bigger restaurant for the evening would have been better.
The location and facilities are excellent. The staff, especially the front desk personnel, were great—very helpful and knowledge. Noise from other rooms and service vendors is a bit distracting in the evening. Breakfast in the restaurant is very nice but formal. it would be nice to also a venue that is simpler and more low key without the white linens
The friendly reception and needs all met in a straightforward way. We had a nice quiet room.
The location and friendliness of the staff was excellent.
the good location I was deeply disappointed by the size of the room, and the fact that it needed a good refurbishment. I felt I paid I very high room cost for something that didn't warrant it. My guide book had said the Villa Real was a deluxe hotel; perhaps I was just given the worst smallest room on the top floor.
DATED, ROOMS ARE LOUD, NO ISALATION CAN HEAR NEIGHBORS ON ALL SIDES AND CLEANING STAFF, THE BED WAS 2 MATTRESS PUT TOGETHER AND VERRY UNCOMFORTABLE, IM 5,10 AND MY FEET HUNG OFF THE END, ONCE INSIDE YOU FEEL LIKE A HOTEL FROM THE 70s THE DECORE IS OLD. THE BREAKFAST WAS AGOOD VALUE. OVERALL WE DID NOT ENJOY OUR STAY. MADE 2 PHONE CALL TO TRY AND GET A REFUND WITH NO SUCCESS, IT WAS SO BAD WE CHECKED OUT 1 DAY EARLY.
It was a lovely hotel with a helpful staff. Great location across from the Prado Museum. You can walk to all attractions. The room was a great layout with a sitting area downstairs from the beds. Restaurant/Bar were excellent. Hotel provided a complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival. They have a free computer if you need the internet. They also provide a CD player in the room. Wish I purchased the CD of Spanish music. Would highly recommend this hotel.
only location next to del prado museum and park The hotel must be 3 or 4 star and doesnt look like 5 star and it is too expensive. The bathroom was small and terrible and after a shower water pours down, the WIFI too slow and only free for 1 hour.
location and its was realatively clean poor facilities no pool,no proper bar, limited seating in restaurant, staff didnt speak english and were not helpful
The welcome bottle of wine and flower and the fact that the maid service was efficient. No on site swimming pool.
Room design was exactly I expected from photo. It had sitting area at few steps donw form bedding area, with sofa and coffee table wtih freash rose in the vase, gave more relaxing space after sightseeing in busy town. Hotel gives upscale/rustic/cosy feeling all together. Front desk personnel, porters, and door men were all nice. Location is great for sigtseeing and dining. A bar next to hotel was nice to visit for small drink or tea at late night too. Bathroom was clean but had a strong oddor (smell like sewer). Also, one day we were back to room duing day time to take a break from sighseeing, the noise from outside (from either roof or pipe repaire) was very loud. So we went back out to sightseeing.
Fantastic, we generally dont spend that much money for a hotel but after a terrible experience the night before, it was worth it!
I loved the hotel, the look of the outside and the entry. The service is not what I have experienced at other Ritz hotels. The rooms were dated.
The pleasure that a very comfortable and opulent hotel can give. The reception rooms are magnificent and staff and service were excellent, as you would expect.
Hotel staff were fabulous ,location excellent As long as you dont mind a bit of faded grandeur and pink wardrobes an excellent choice
The location, comfort and style. We stayed at the hotel 7 days and the 4th day we had to ask to vacuum the room. Only one arm chair fitted into the small room we had. Cleaning inconsistent. Not much selection at breakfast even when it was very expensive.
The room The location The general ambience We reserved a room with breakfast thru 'get a room' and surprised to see that it was not a buffet breakfast!!! for getting the buffet breakfast we needed to add some more money.... Not all the recommendations of the concierges were good, sometimes it seemed like they recommended places that they had personal interests/connections in.
Old world charm and location. Great lobby and dining rooms Room furnishings and hall carpets need refreshing
We liked this hotel very much, luxury. Staff was very polite, we arrived 13 p.m., check in should be 14 p.m., we were offered to wait 20 minutes and offered drinks free of charge. In room we also found compliments, it's very nice, when you arrive. Buffet breakfast costs 30 eur per person.
Staff was delightfully enthusiastic. Setting was beautiful!
The beds were amazingly comfortable, the housekeepers were not only very amusing but extraordinarily nice. The hotel was insanely clean and had a very comfortable feel to it, as if a lot of fancy people had been through it over the years. The location is good, but not great, for accessing most of the touristy stuff in Madrid. But I found the Prado (directly beside the Ritz) to be horrifically overcrowded compared to some of the other museums like Sofia Reina just down the street. Note: Not really easy to access via metro, I'd recommend taking a taxi to/from. Take the following review with a grain of salt. I am a young person who grew up poor and wanted, for once, the "Ritz" experience: While I am a big fan of trying new things, I have to say that the Ritz experience just wasn't for me. I don't mean to be crass, but if I had a fistful of fives - I can think of a few places I'd rather spend it than tipping the endless stream of people trying to help me with things. Additionally, there is a little doll that you place on your door if you do not wish to be disturbed. Note: Don't leave the doll up for very long, because if you do, they will call your room until you answer so that they can ask when the next time they can come in your room is. I nap maybe... 2-3 times per year at most, and I am severely irritated that they felt the need to call during my biannual nap to ask me when they can come in my room. Instead of changing my sheets 3X per day, how about leaving me the hell alone when I have my DO NOT DISTURB DOLL up? Perhaps I am not cut out for the lifestyle, but I don't want/need people treating me like a helpless child, yet simultaneously making me feel "lower" than they are. Every time I offered a "no thanks, I don't need a taxi, I'm walking" or walked into the hotel from the street, I received these weird looks of incredulity/disdain that I didn't particularly care for. When I brought my own luggage downstairs on checkout I absolutely horrified the front desk attendant. Why the need to treat people like this? I have no idea. My recommendation? Take the $500 per night you'd spend here for the standard room and split it in half. Take $250 / night to spend on some other hotel's suite. Take the other $250 and stick it back in your pocket.
Location. Definately not the 4 star hotel. Don't know why some people give high points to this hotel in reviews. Urgently needs renovation. No sound -proofing at all, you can hear all the noises inside the hotel. TV programs are very tricky - be carefull not to get caught for pay TV. Breakfast is too expensive. They have old key system and require to leave that key at the front desk. High minibar prices. Wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you need hostel accomodation at hotel price, which make no sence.
The front staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is close to everything in Madrid. The 3 museums, the major plazas, the royal palace. I recommend a stay here.
The central location of this hotel enabled a perfect introduction to Madrid's cultural offerings as the main museums are within walking distance along with a good variety of characterful bars and restaurants.
comfortable hotel with facilities suitable for our visit. Excellent location. THere was nothing that I didn't like.
If you are planning to visit the art museums - Prado, Reina Sophia, Thyssen Bornemisza - this is the best place to stay, all three are within ston throw from the hotel. Aso the area is very nice, a lot of taverns and restaurants t pick from. The hotel is relatively new, and the rooms are very nice and well designed. The only complaint is the partition walls must bextrememly thin and with not enough isolation, you can hear every movement in the neighbouring rooms
Its location and closeness to tapas bars No formal restuarant
Excellent location, restaurants and everything within walking distance.
Cleanliness of the room and the friendliness of the staff! Mini bar was a bit pricey...
The hotel was clean and in a great and central location. Close to the Prado Museum. Breakfast starts late: Early risers or those needing to get on the road early shouldn't waste their money on including breakfast.
the location is perfect, staff polite & attentive, nice rooms,
Near Paseo de Prado, really close to all major museums and rest attractions. Noice could be heard through the walls. The cleaning ladies were making too much noice in the morning.
Quite central to tourist locations and not on a main road
Location, near the museums and in a great part of town.
The best part is the location - beside all the main museums, surrounded by coffee shops and restaurants and still walking distance (20mins) to the central Plaza. The swimming pool was very nice- it is not very large but warm, comfortable and I had it all too myself
The general atmosphere is good, the decoration is well done The room wasn't what I expected. It was extremely small, with a darkened window looking to a small concrete courtyard. It was quite claustrofobic.
Location across the street frommPrado Museum and a few blocks to Reina Sofia and all the Picasso exhibits Had a great suite Friendly staff AC could have been cooler could not set below 20 degrees
SPA, BREAKFAST AND STAFF WAS OK SIZE OF BED AND BEDROOM VERY TINY. HOT WEATHER IN CORRIDORS. WAS NO AC IN CORRIDORS
We liked the Hotel very much specially as far as the staff was concerned. Very helpful and amicable. Having free wi-fi in the room was a nice surprise once most hotels charge a great deal for it. The location is also great, a few steps from the Prado Museum, Reina Sofia and beautiful parcs.
service of staff
Excellent location for a city trip. A lot of must see locations are within walking distance. Superfriendly staff. A little dark inside. Not much daylight.
The location is fantastic and it is fun to visit the restaurant and enjoy watching the local folks. Our room faced the main avenue that runs past the Prado and was amazingly quiet. It was the best night sleep we've ever had in lively Madrid. The hotel staff could be a little more proactive in dealing with customers questions.
The staff was very professional and extremely helpful. They made a show reservation and advised on special cab arrangements to the airport. Each person was helpful when asked but were not overly pushy. The rooms were very comfortable and provided the essential needs. Very convenient to museums, parks, bus/cab service, train station and easy walk to various plazas/restaurants. Lack of some artwork/pictures in rooms. Ice machine in hotel.
Very central, clean, easy Small room, could not turn of the radiator which was very hot during the nights
location of the hotel is good. Very close to the Prado museum and Parque del retiro. 500 meter to Atocha train station where you can take high speed (and normal) trains to other Spanish destinations. Also, if you don't arrive too late or too early you can take the airport express bus to Atocha station. Is however on a 2x4 lane street but it has 2 windows, 1 with 'single' glass and another one with double glass so it keeps the sound from outside away (however the inside sounds are passed on rather easily...). Hotel has free wireless internet. doors are with key cards. no mini bar, though it does have a hair dryer. the hotel does not offer breakfast though reception is connected with a small restaurant next door where you would be able to eat something. there are other places around as well where you can get breakfast. food is ok but not spectacular.
We chose it only for its proximity to the Prado and it was great to be right across the Paseo. It was our first hotel in Spain and therefore the room seemed quite small, but not unusually so judging by most hotels we stayed in afterward.
Well-located. Internet access. Quiet, despite location on a busy road. Cheap for a city hotel. My room stank of stale cigarette smoke. The cafeteria was closed for the week, meaning that there was no food available in the hotel, but there had been nothing on the website warning of this. Staff were surly at times and not particularly welcoming.
Location, Staff, price Air conditioning noisy
Great location in Madrid. Close to train station,Prado, downtown Madrid. Easy walking around area. Restaurant was very good and convenient.
Great location for visiting the big three Madrid art museums and near the railroad station. Some rude behavior by a few staff members, especially one evening waiter in the restaurant.
Even if there are many better location hotels around this area, location could be their strength if you want to visit museum or other area of city to take a day trip departure at atocha station. The quality of staffs is suspecious, room was not deserving fair enough space.
Great location and cute decorating. Staff was kind. Sound traveled easily into our room from the hallway, though thankfully most guests were considerate and quiet.
Great staff, very friendly and informative. Excellent location, I always felt safe, even while traveling alone. The pillows were very thin.
The hotel is in an amazing locations. Close to lots of attractions and fun things to do. The room was very clean and have a cool vibe. Very spacious and lots of amenities. The desk attendant forgot to give me my passport back - I felt a little weird about that.
Excellent location - literally 5 minutes walk to Prado and Thyssen Museums and an easy walk to many other places including Atocha railway station - good for trips out of town. Managers/staff friendly - despite basic English - and clearly concerned about our security. Easy to use in room safe and free WiFi. Double glazed windows mean a quiet room when you need it - but you can open and enjoy the streetlife below. No complaints.
I like this hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing
The hostal is situated about 10 minutes walk from Atocha train station so I could organize my tours to other cities like Toledo and Segovia. And the Puerta of Sol is only about 10 - 15 minutes as well.
Homely, clean and neat facility managed by a old family.. Very close to the Prado musuem.. There is a small locker in each room Little noisy.. Partitions between rooms are of wooden plys.. Quite disturbing if you are a light sleeper
The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff were exceedingly rude. When it came time to check out (and we were on time), undue pressure was placed on us to vacate the room as quickly as possible and they were decidedly rude. After knocking on the door, the lady pointed to the exit as if to say 'Leave now...' Utterly ridiculous.
