Access to walking to all areas downtown. Easy access in parking. Quiet.
close to everything the breakfast
My friends and I stayed at the Avenue Inn after driving through Big Sur. We arrived after 10 pm and were greeted by Saul, who showed us to our room and gave some excellent dinner recommendations for late at night. The room was in great condition (newly renovated) and very comfortable for 4 adults to sleep in. Saul helped us in the morning by providing additional towels and helped with checkout as well. Overall we were very happy! Nothing - 100% would stay here again.
Great service, location, beds and showers!
Smallish room, but it was quiet, clean and comfy.
The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The pool was empty and in disrepair.
Stayed the night. The room was large, clean and comfortable for our need. The Inn is not a vacation spot itself but it is cheap and a great place to stay if you have a car and you are passing in the area or would like to viait thia nice town. There isn't much one can expect for such a low cost but 'breakfast' was coffee and orange juice, two types of store cakes and two types of cereal. OK
Great little place. Everything was clean. The hotel was right there when i needed it.
great breakfast uncomfortable pillows
When looking for a simple place to rest while traveling, the San Luis inn does that well. While being a short walk to downtown it is also close to the highway without being loud. Breakfast was a little sparse but Jack in the box is across the street.
Clean room Fridge Microwave Wood floors Shower and tub Pricing No pool(empty) Low budget breakfast(should just not have one) Fridge needed more cleaning Parking (big trucks in small spots) All night people in and out Curtains (need darker ones that fit windows)
clean room, new quiet heater/air conditioner, great price It's very close to the highway so when there is traffic you hear it. Nothing fancy, but everything in the room worked, including the wifi.
The hotel was very accommodating when I called ahead and requested an early check-in since we had an early afternoon wedding to attend. It also seemed like the bathrooms had been recently updated. However, we were uncomfortable being located in such a cramped, behind the laundry facilities hotel room. There was a hole in the wall near the mini-fridge and we had to park way down the street near someone's home because there was no parking when we got back.
All very clean. The room was comfortable and the bed was super comfortable. I loved that the room had a fridge and microwave, most places don't. Everything was great.
The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The restroom too was adequate. Everything was great for a one night stop through San Luis. The location was literally down the street from the freeway, a gas station, the downtown area and two mins away from the mission we were there to see. Sure the exterior is no Hilton resort, but the price is great. The pool is basically a trash or deconstructed pit, but if the owner is smart, he'll just have it filled and have the area made into more parking space. Because a pool is not necessary for the place.
Convenient location. Booked on Kayak the same night. A Sunday night booking so I think there were available rooms everywhere. For a Budget option it is a great place. Coffee, Juice and Rolls for the breakfast is a nice morning starter.. Parking is very tight. Outside seems run down but the rooms are kept nicely.
The staff was unfriendly. The pool is under construction and this wasn't disclosed before booking. The room had an overpowering smell of cleaner. The free breakfast was only cold cereal.
I was really impressed with everything. The Staff were helpful in every way.
My stay here was very comfortable. It was clean, the staff was hospitable & it was in a great location. The price was very reasonable also. I would definitely stay here again.
After I left my wallet behind, staff contacted me to let me know and then were very accommodating in making arrangements to have it sent to me.
There was a mistake with our reservation and they were very unhelpful in trying to help. The person in front of us even had the same mistake with their reservation and they were unwilling to do anything to try to resolve the situation. On top of a horrible check in experience, we checked into our room and had a giant bug in the room. They were helpful in letting us change rooms after we told them about the bug.
My room was clean and staff were friendly. The mattress in the room sagged in the middle, the wifi was very weak, and there were homeless people hanging out by the dumpsters.
The housekeeper was using our bathroom when we got into our room...so weird. Also, there was not fitted sheet on the bed. That seems really gross to me.
wifi not working. 3 lights not working. dirty towels. shower drain blocked.
It's located adjacent to a Denny's and iHop and other restaurants are a stones throw away. The bed was very hard and the floor carpet looked dingy.
Found a used " Q-tip" on floor next to the bed. Other than that our stay was good
This is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in over many years. At max, I'd pay $59 a night as it is basically a roof over your head. We paid $189 due to it being Cal Poly move-in weekend but you can't charge that amount for the hotel it is. It hasn't been renovated for over 10 years I'm guessing by the look of the rooms.
This was the 3rd year in a row we stayed for the annual marathon. Deena let us check in early as the room was ready, and let us check out late when the marathon went longer then were expected. My wife really wanted to shower before we drove home. I'm truly grateful for the staff here as they are kind and understanding. It's an older hotel, but location and staff make up for that!
Actually a nice place to stay for the price you pay. Internet. Kept going in and out. Had to be right by lobby to get a constant connection.
The staff was very helpful, outside was clean, family friendly, and close to stores, etc. Pet friendly Rooms aren't the nicest, bed was uncomfortable. We ended up changing hotels. expected more from pics.
From check in to check out the stay was great. Exceptionally friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, great location. It was perfect for what we needed.
The room was neat and clean as was the bathroom. The location was far enough from downtown so the traffic wasn't a problem. The staff was helpful. I wish I had known there two stories and I would have chosen a room on the ground level. The tv didn't work and had to be worked on by the staff three times. They were quick and efficient though.
The Sands Inn is just off the PCH exist, right next to the gas station. The staff was friendly and there were free cookies at the check-in counter. Our room was clean; the beds were comfortable and the bathroom pleasant. The free breakfast was tasty, especially the waffles. This place even included wifi, though the speeds were fairly slow. Overall, I found the place to be a positive experience, though ear plugs are recommended if you would like uninterrupted sleep. The walls are rather thin and car alarms went off during the night, interrupting our sleep. The wifi was so slow that I used my phone for internet access instead.
Decor is a little dated but the room was spotless and the staff was super nice!
Comfortable bed, room was really clean. Strong soap/disinfectant smell made breathing difficult. In room refrigerator rumbled pretty much the entire night. Between the two I didn't get much sleep.
The price for what you get was awesome. Needed a place to stay while traveling from SF to LA. This place was clean, well maintained and the stuff was great. Breakfast was free but nothing special. Wish they had more options and fresher eggs and sausage.
We were very pleased with the overall appearance and cleanliness of this hotel. It is very comfortable and attractive. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool area, and the deck, table, and chairs made it wonderful to hang out there. The website did not advertise a jacuzzi, so we were pleasantly surprised to find they had one...until we got in and realized it is barely heated. We were mildly disappointed because we like a hot jacuzzi, but it was heated more than the pool and was still comfortable with the jets. Two problems: The jacuzzi wasn't heated to jacuzzi-temperature. Also, the wi-fi would cut in and out on us, which was a small problem.
Hotel was located close to Cal Poly and not too far from downtown. Our room felt small for a family of 5 (two queens). Breakfast was good, coffee was great. Stuffy room and small. Parking is tight for an SUV. Back of hotel looked unkept.
Exceptionally friendly staff and warm cookies at the front desk! They do the best that they can with an aging facility.
Flat screen tv When booking, I read that this hotel had bathtubs, it did not.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was used dental floss in the bathroom and hair in the refrigerator.
Rooms & breakfast no
Every room is a suite. Extremely clean and well cared for! The free beer/wine and BBQ are great. Super value for what they offer. SLO is one of the best places on earth. Great stay! No. Everything was great!
Free beer at the bar during happy hour!!
The room was big, the breakfast was substantial. But the construction was disturbing the peace and quiet of guests. My husband called and complained and they did not stop any construction until past 11:00 am. By that time, we were so fed up & left. They were renovating the hotel. The noise at 9:00 am was very, very, very AWFUL! It was bordering on the ridiculous. I would not have paid $-- for this freaking room.
Proximity to downtown & breakfast

Free drinks during 5-7pm every night They also served food reasonably priced right off the BBQ grill . The pool area was nice with heated lamps to keep you warm No
The fireplace was nice and cozy Doesn't work in the rain.Tv was very poor.Bathroom was tiny.

The mgmt reception. The web site said the hotel was 'pet friendly' but management said it was not-
True two room suites. Good breakfast in the morning included. Evening reception and barbeque as well. The soap.
The location, quiet convenience, and the food/ drinks gratis. N/A
location is convenient, breakfast was acceptable even it was small portions a 1/4 of a muffin, cereal, milk, oj, and coffee. room has a smell, poor maintenance, handicapped room when we are not in that need.
A peaceful and quiet hotel with everything in order. Friendly and helpful staff.
Convenient for travelers, just out of highway The carpeted floor of the hotel is very dirty, rather disgusting. The room was fair.
not much --it took 3 tries to get a key that worked. the room dan opened shampoo bottles in the shower, cigarette burns in the sink. see above.
Top shower probably borrowed from a strip mining company. Short walk into town where there are plenty of bars and resturaunts. Very mean breakfast (coffee and a cake). No double glazing, and right next to the freeway, so no need for a morning call. Cold with a very small and noisy heater.
We needed a cheap hotel to sleep at while visiting friends in San Luis and winetasting in Paso. For how cheap the hotel was, we were worried what the hotel would be like- but it was just fine. It had a good location- only a $5 cab ride from downtown bars and its right across the street from a Jack in the Box and Taco Bell, for late night snacks.
Good size room. The bed is too soft. The pillow too small. The so-called "continental breakfast" is very symbolic and cheap. I would rather they don't offer that so we don't count on their breakfast.
Nothing Rooms were very old and felt dirty and dingy. The rooms stunk horribly. I'd expect a hotel like this to be $45/night at the most.
lots of great food within walking distance. And about a 10 minute walk to Downtown SLO. N/A
It was within walking distant of downtown in a safe area with a gorgeous view of the mountains. For the price we paid I wasn't expecting much, but was very pleased to get a clean room, free wifi and breakfast in the morning! That's more than some nicer hotels I've stayed in. Highly recommend staying here if you're not looking for a luxury experience, just quiet, clean rooms.
This is literally the cheapest hotel in the area, literally. There were at least 3 other hotels within spitting distance, but this one is the least expensive. It was fine for a quick stopover in SLO but I wouldn't recommend spending your vacation here. It's definitely a budget hotel but it was clean, warm and safe. As long as you have a decent buzz and a good sense of humor this place will do just fine. The bed was firm, the pillows were soft and the water was hot. Contrary to other reviews, the heater worked. The remote however, did not. We were placed in a handicapped equipped room, though neither of us have a disability. Overall it was ok but the shower was laughable at about 4 ft high and poor drainage. The bathroom was practically flooded by the time I finished splashing water on myself. But the water was hot.
It was cheap and located close to the college and downtown San Luis Obispo. It needs some TLC, missing light bulbs, slightly torn curtain, bathtub tiling done very poorly.
Reserved for 3: Needed to cancel, but refused; then would no;t refund the difference between the 3 requested atnd the one that stayed.
Front desk staff was very friendly! I came down to ask for more towels and was granted my request with a sincere smile and friendly exchange. We stayed one night in a 2 double bed room and used the pool while we were there. No problems at all and everything was very clean. Enjoyed free coffee in the morning and the location was easily accessible. There was a charge for wifi and not too many channels on the tv, but we had no complaints.
I liked the location, just off 101 and only minutes away from where I had to be. The room appearance was okay BUT (see what I didn't like) It wasn't clean (dust was under the bed, the sheets on one of the doubled beds had something on them (dirty) the towels in the bathroom weren't white more like off white, bathroom sink had something in it and required that I sanitize it and the shower. Also wiped down the counter in the bathroom due to if I could see dirt in the sink and shower I can assume the counter is not clean as well. Also had a funny odor in the room and fab breezed the bedding and sanitized the phone and anything my things would be touching. This location appears to allow long term staying and some of the people were questionable. No iron, Ironing board, coffee maker. Only had one Ice machine for the whole facility and it was all the way up front next to the office. They provided coffee only up front by the office in the morning and it was STRONG The one Ice machine they had on the outside was disgusting and needed cleaning and repairing.
The staff was nice, but overall the facility is not good. Everything. Too noicey and you can hear too much upstairs.
Staff was very nice Hoodlums hanging out in parking lot smoking
Couldn't hear neighbors and once inside, felt secure. The AC worked. PRO/CON: We got what we payed for. Non-smoking room sounded like weed, furniture looked like it was from IKEA and shower was TINY. Felt unsafe to go outside at night due to the other vacationers/overnighters staying there. WiFi wasn't free and minimal TV stations. PRO/CON: We got what we payed for.
Room was clean. Felt safe. No frills. Smelled heavy of air spray. Probably guests smoked. Might bother some folks. Was surprised they charged for WiFi.
Rooms were recently remodeled and it was nice and clean Refrigerater in the rooms
Comfortable. Had wi fi, iron, hair dryer etc. affordable for the location.
Friendly staff which ccommodated my need for a downstairs room because I was travelling with a motorcycle and wanted to park right in front of my room. The room was really clean and you can tell that they took care of it even though the decor was something from the early 90's. A pub and a seafood restaurant (Crawdaddy's) are within a block or two walk and the area is right next to the 101.
Hotel staff were not pleasant. Room was not clean. Shower tub was dirty. I will never stay here again.
Good value for the money. Clean, comfortable. No noisy guests. Convenient location. Morning buffet could have a few more choices.
Clean place! The hotel is a little old and the. Eds were on the hard side but not uncomfortable. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay there but what really made the difference was the hotel staff. They were really friendly and shared a lot of local knowledge with us.
The staff was very helpful and friendly There were cracked tiles and termites in the room.
The staff, the poor quality of breakfast
Clean, comfortable, good wifi. No elevator
Mattresses were old and not very comfortable. Towels and linnens were old and needed to be replaced.
It was quiet the night I stayed. The shower curtain rod was broken.
Just a decent clean hotel for a quick nights stay while on the road for business. No complaints.
Very nice people at the front desk. Older motel that has been given a fresh coat of paint, but clean inside and out. What I really liked is that it looks like the work is done by the owners themselves, so there is an attention to detail that you don't typically see with work done by professionals.
The General Manager was rude to two disabled adult guests during check in. He said: "We have problems with those kind," humiliating these guests. He tried to cancel their reservation, saying: I don't care about the money." After being politely but firmly asked to honor their reservation, he let them check in. These guests stayed for 9 nights without any problems to the hotel or other guests. These adults were disabled, not drunks or drug addicts as he seemed to imply.
Price, clean, parking. Poor internet wifi in my room which was far from lobby.
Registration was brusque and wasn't sure what to do with my credit card returned by the clerk who licked her fingers during sign in.
The proximity of the motel to the places we were visiting. the carpet was not as clean as I would have liked it to be. There was also a significant noise incident with drunk men pounding on doors, yelling, and generally acting obnoxious between 1 AM and 3:30 AM within the motel complex. If there was security at the site, this incident could have been cut much shorter.
The location was concient however it in no way made staying at that hotel worth it. The hotel was dirty, old and run down. All which would have been fine if the price was right. However upon checking in the front desk staff insisted we owed more money then Kayak said and tried to hassle us into paying more. They did no provide a print out of the costs and we we finally did get an itemized recipt it was clear they were gouging us.
It was affordable and conveniently located. The bed wasn't terrible and the room contained a mini fridge and microwave. I was able to book a room on short notice. It was a cold night and the heater kept me warm enough. I arrived around 9 pm. First I waited at the desk for several minutes ringing the bell and eventually hollering "hello?" toward the back to find out if there was a live human around. Still nothing. I called them from my cell phone and a woman picked up and apologetically emerged from the back, appearing to have just woken up from a dense, deep sleep. She mentioned nonchalantly that she didn't think the wifi was working and hoped it came back by morning. The room was nothing fancy but had at least the essentials. The wifi was out for most of the night but the cable worked. I immediately found several small ants in the bathroom, which didn't freak me out much because I respect ants for their tenacity and teamwork, but would still much prefer not to have them in my room. I could not get any water to come out of the shower no matter which ways I turned, tilted, and twisted the knob. I didn't expect much from this place, and chose it solely on price and location, but I still left quite disappointed.
location-quiet even though next to the freeway no hoghway noice-nice size room decebt parking very clean overpricded=hoildau weekend
Not clean, noisy and uncomfortable
It was clean, staff was friendly. The walls were thin room next to us had a dog and was loud. Plus they had all tvs program for the volume to stay low and there was no way for u to turn it up.
staff Price and drug addicts
Both front desk personnel were very nice. Its a cheap motel in a good location (not beach front, obviously, but not in a bad area of town either). So while the location was good the guests were still a bit rowdy. The rooms were clean but a bit outdated. Toilet didn't have a kid to the seat and that is a big pet peeve of mine. other than that, it was fine.
This was by far the nicest Motel 6 I have ever seen. It is as beautiful, lush, and well-maintained. Beautiful landscaping, lots of grass, and a beautiful pool.
The staff were helpful, nice and perfect! The room: small bed, no clean towels in the room, I arrived and found the dirty towels hanging there. The toillet is missing the top part to close the 'sit', but looks like normal for the hotel.
It was clean and staff was friendly. Extra charge for wifi
the room was big and it was very cheap. I like the place
Beds were ok, 100% Orange juce ;)) Dirty --> everything! Only for one night, It is no kontinental breakfast, only coffee, juce & muffins
This needs to be taken off your site. The rooms were incredibly filthy. Bedding was dirty. Shower wasn't even clean enough to shower in. Smelled horribly and was worried for my safety.
Owner was incredibly kind and helpful! Thanks for a nice stay!
It was the least expensive hotel option in all of San Luis Obispo, Ca. The room was quiet. There was a refrigerator and a microwave in the room, a feature I always look for when I travel. The shower was DIRTY, with mildew on the curtain, and a used shampoo packet on the floor from the LAST guest!! There were burned out lightbulbs in the bathroom. There was dust and dirt anywhere that was high up and easy to ignore... Overall, the place was in poor repair, with poor paint issues throughout the room. Granted, the desk person mentioned the motel had been there since the 60s, but I have stayed in many older properties in the past, that have still been clean and in good repair. The ONLY thing that kept me in this room for the night was that I'd already paid, and the next hotel's price was like $30 more, when I was already at the top of my budget for the night.
