Beautiful Location A very nice resort in a beautiful location. The grounds were large enough to have lots of activity...or find quiet areas to relax
Very nice and relaxing! All the outlets in our rooms did not work well.
The staff was absolutely amazing. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The rooms was very clean, comfortable and spacious. There was also ample supply of pool chairs towels and drinks. I never felt like I had to fight other guests for any of these things.
The restaurants and the pool areas No shuttle service to get to and from town and the airport
Place looked good. Really Clean. Grounds too big. Too much walked by to get anywhere. Staff pretends to care but really doesn't Beware of the tours they are very misleading Not a whole lot too do on the massive grounds Very reminiscent of a low budget cruise ship. A lot of money spent on beauty of hotel but not anything that benefits the guest. Food ok at best No beach besides the man made one. Which is not actually on the beach. The ruins look man made and there are rocks all along the real beach. Don't expect sand. There is none. Don't expectt any major benefit to staying here because of proximity to Excaret. There isn't a major benefit because you have to pay extra for Xcaret just like anyone else would. The unlimited experience is a trap to get you to go for 3 days. Don't waste your 350.00. I could go on and on. We complained about things to staff to no concern
This was one of the best all inclusive properties I have been to. Room, staff, food, pools, bars and entertainment all were amazing. I loved the hydro therapy as well. Plus, as a bonus, the front door was right on 5th avenue, allowing us to shop, go to bars and grab off resort food. If you are looking for a chance to get both all inclusive and experience Playa Del Carmen, I highly recommend the Royal! The beach was horrible - rocky and full of seaweed. However, as I personally hate sand and salt water, this did not bother me in the slightest. This actually made my stay better, as we stuck to the pool, bars and 5th avenue.
Parts of the grounds were very stinky
The staff were incredible.. Beautiful resort, good good options Horrible Horrible Smell from ocean like sewage. It was extremely hard to enjoy the beach. No eating at the pools
Everything. It was amazing.
Staff very kind and courteous. Animation team is so fun. Wish it was less expensive.
Amazing...and I always choose 5 star resorts. One of the best I've ever experienced. The hotel should do a better job of explaining all there is to offer and an initial tour...it really has excellent offerings, but we had to navigate/learn a lot on our own. It would have been helpful to have more information upfront.
Our room was gorgeous Shows were great Food was great Loved how we could walk out to 5th Avenue Most of the staff was friendly Beach was well kept Pool was freezing I felt like they were always trying to sell something to us Small pool Crowded beach Beach chairs were old- they need some serious updating!
Food, service, entertainment. Everything was perfect in my opinion. Nothing
The only thing that was lacking in quality were the bed sheets. For a 5 star resort the sheets were old and covered with pill balls. Also I don't like the fact that people get up and "save" chairs early in the morning without even sitting there during the day. The system should be when you leave the lounge chair you take your saving towel so someone can sit there and use the chair. Most of the time there were approximately 2/3 of the chairs empty just being "saved". This is not necessarily the fault of the resort but of people just being rude.
The service, food, and location were excellent. The staff were genuinely happy to be of assistance and always greeted us with a smile.
There wasn't anything that stood out as amazing... especially for the price... food was alright, drinks weren't anything special, beach was small... Traveling with a buddy and when checking in they didn't have any standard rooms with 2 beds available so had to upgrade to a 1 bd suite... they also had constant maintenance including jack hammering immediately adjacent to the restaurants at 8pm which was very loud and obnoxious.
We were upgraded to a larger room. The room was very big and very nice. The staff were all very nice and accommodating. The food was good but not amazing. It just wasn't the right type of resort for us. It had a more pretentious feel than we like. I also think it would be nice to have a view of the beach from inside the resort. It is farther from town and shopping than I would have liked. It might be perfect for some but not us. Full disclosure, it rained most of the time we were there. I don't think my review would have been different if the sun were out, but it is possible.
I liked that everything was included. We were there for a wedding and they took care of everything. It was great The food was just okay, nothing to brag about.
Was very good vacation just didn't like the beach )-; but the stuff was amazing very friendly and the food was not so baddefinitely will go back... Was very good vacation just didn't like the beach )-; but the stuff was amazing very friendly The room was also very goodI definitely recommend this hotel
The grounds are beautiful, impeccably cleaned, the jungle animals are fun to watch. Nothing I would change
The accommodations were wonderful; rooms were beautiful. The evening restaurants were good. The grounds are beautifully kept. We enjoyed the evening showing and the pool/beach activities. Easy 10 minute walk to PlayaCar for souvenirs. The buffet for breakfast and lunch was only so so. There is no hair conditioner in the bathrooms. Our room had mosquitos but once reported they fumigated and then no other bug issues inside.
The Iberostar Tucan / Quetzal is one of my favorite resorts in the Mexican Rivera Maya. The dining buffets are fine, and there's always some food offered that you've never tried. It's fun to experiment with new tastes. This was my fourth visit. The staff are very courteous and speak several languages. The fun begins with the jungle in the center of the resort. A large canopy of trees with well lit winding paths takes you from your room to the waterfront pools. New additions this year included a balcony overlooking the flamingo pond, a boardwalk in the center of the jungle, and a new waterfall with Mayan statues hidden in the rocks. The wild animals living in the jungle run free and appear tame, but you are warned not to feed them. Peacocks are everywhere, and you can get some great photos of the males spreading out their huge feathers. If you stay near buildings 14 and 13 expect to have howler monkeys swinging through the treetops to get to their feeding areas. They wake up at dawn with ferocious howls that remind you that, yes, you are far from home and now in a tropical paradise. A surprise this time was the renovation of one of the buffet restaurants, what was once an intimate rustic buffet is now a separated modern glass and steel food service area with a longer walk to your table. I preferred the rustic design but was told Iberostar plan to remodel the other buffet restaurants with the same bright white modern sterile design.
The beach and pool are amazing and HUGE! The food in the restaurants was excellent. The food at the buffet was good. They did a great job of trying to include foods at the buffet that would appeal to guests from all countries, and it gave us a chance to try different foods that we would never typically order in a restaurant. There were always snacks and ice cream available by the pool, which was great. The entertainment staff, Star Friends, was amazing! They work around the clock to entertain the guests and always seem to have activities, games, or shows going on that are actually entertaining, whether you're participating or just watching. The nightly shows were a bit hit or miss, but they get an A+ for effort and enthusiasm. For some of the shows, they brought in professional dancers or entertainers and those were excellent. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The refrigerator was restocked daily with water, soda, and beer. The drinks were weak, but we liked that since we could drink all day at the beach and all night at the bars without being too affected by the alcohol! The disco was a great place to listen to music and relax at night after the shows. It wasn't very busy when we were there, but the bartenders were amazing and so friendly! We never felt pressured to tip anyone, and they almost seemed surprised when we did tip them. Overall, our trip was amazing! This did not bother me, but it is not a fancy "luxury" resort, so people with extremely high standards or expensive taste might want to stay elsewhere.
The staff were incredible. Great, personalized service from all of the staff made this stay exceptional. The facilities were modern, clean and well kept. The activity equipment was available and in good condition and the beach/poolside areas were clean and comfortable. For the most part the food and drinks were excellent. The buffet food was typical of what you would expect of a resort/hotel buffet but the poolside restaurants and bars had excellent offerings. La Rotonda bar had great sushi and wonderful service. The Los Murales restaurant was phenomenal. The food was excellent and the staff was attentive and pleasant. Had an issue with my original booking but the customer service department of the hotel was able to work it out after a few phone calls. The WiFi wasn't the best. The signal was strong around the resort but connectivity was often poor. When we were able to connect, speeds were acceptable for email and limited web browsing. The whirlpools are quite cool- barely warmer than the pool itself.
We were pleased with the variety and quality of the food from the Sol/Luna Grill restaurants except BBQ night. La Palapa del Sol's main food is buffet. We are not buffet people. Many of the better items on their full service menu cost extra for the All Inclusive people.
The facility was outstanding. A great place for the family. Wonderful staff and a perfect location close to downtown. Lack of entertainment. Food could use some improvement.
I would go back, this is very nice location, clean beach
I would go there again. But I'll be prepared to sleep in an uncomfortable bed.
Loved staying at the Riu Palace Mexico! The service was outstanding, especially the bartenders at the swim up bar:) The food was great, rooms were spacious and clean, and the shows were entertaining. The wristbands allow you to take advantage of other Riu properties. We loved going across to the Rui Tequila for drinks and a little dancing. What I liked best was the beautiful palm tree lined beach. Plenty of water activities available on site. The spa is really good, as well.
I went with my parents and husband for 7 nights. This Riu is somewhat quieter than the other nearby Rius...but you have a gold bracelet, which means you can go to any of the Rius if you want more party than relaxation. Good food, good nightly entertainment. Excellent drinks one day in a coconut on the way to the beach. Beach is fantastic. Water beautiful. If you enjoy relaxing on the beach or playing in the ocean (snorkeling, body board, catamaran.... )this is the place to go! Bring an insulated mug to take your drinks to the beach. The gift shop in the lobby is a bit pricey -much better deals on 5th St in downtown Playa. We were married in Mexico 5 years ago and this is our third trip back to the area. Have stayed at the Riu Tequila before, but rooms at the Palace Mexico are nicer and you're just 2 minutes to the beach instead of 15. First time at this resort and would return again -especially if the parent's are buying!
Its our favorite resort. We love the location. We can walk into playa del carmen..in twenty minutes. The beach is great. We spend much more time there than by the pool. The shows are pretty weak, but we enjoy dancing outdoors in the evening to a three piece orchestra. We also love the food and the beautiful bar off the lobby. The rpm is undergoing a serious makeover. We toured one of the 'new' rooms...ugh would be my review. It's very modern...chrome y glass. Not my taste. Still. For now a wonderful resort
The floor tiles are very slick. My husband fell & broke his arm the first day of our vacation. When we went to the front destk to get help, the manager told us to wait in our room & have $50 cash for the Doctor when he came. We got more compassion & help from the other tourists & the actual workers that clean than from the manager. I asked for an incident report & he refused several times. He said the incident was our problem & they were not resposible for anything. The Dr. put us in a cab & sent us to the hospital. My husband had surgery & was in the hospital 3 days. No one from the hospital checked on us. My husbands roommate had also slipped on the tile, and there were several tourists in the hospital that had slipped. When I went back to the front desk for help I was crying & still no one asked how my husband was, & if I needed anything. They acted like I had the plaque. When I brought him back & asked where I could get ice, they said they would bring it to the room, they were stil...
This resort is excellent. Although the bed was uncomfortable for my husband's bad back but when we told the front desk, within 5 minutes we had a mattress pillow top cover on the beds in our room. The staff was very, very welcoming and accommodating. Anytime we asked for anything they took care of it immediately. They all went above and beyond. We will go back to this resort and keep the Riu resorts in mind whenever we travel.
Hard-working, friendly staff make you feel right at home in this beautiful, newly renovated (Dec 2012) all-inclusive property. The first night we stayed, the toilet wouldn't flush properly and the staff immediately came and addressed the problem. The landscaping was mature and gorgeous, and the beach front location and new pools were a great spot to relax during the day. Buffet as always offers something for everyone. Would highly recommend this to anyone.
When we arrived to the hotel we were welcomed by professional staff, had a nice/tasty glas of papaya juice and then our luggage was taken to our room by a porter. At first it was a WOW, such a nice place, the food, service, beach, etc was great. Overall the place is awesome, but one thing I have noticed being such a big company and have no security camera is a big NO NO. This place is not even close to be secure, we had to hide everything we could to a very small safe provided by hotel, but you phisically can't put there everything possible. So we heard that someone was robbed during their stay. We've traveled to other places in Mexico and never experienced anything like that. My advise to you guys, put some cameras at least outside your building, you will have less stress on having to walk around when it's raining, humid etc. Other than that, the place is great, service is as well. My favorite drink was cappuccino w/out sugar, very tasty, well other drinks were great as well, but i am...
We stayed at Riu Palace the first week of January 2012. We had a wonderful time, stayed 5 nights. I would called a family type resort. Lots of couples of all ages, as well as families with kids. The beach area is great, white sand, enjoyed the walks on the beach. We walked to Playa a couple times (about a 30 minute walk). We loved the food. We ate a 3 of the 4 reservable restaurants, liked Krystal the best. We thought the buffet selection for all meals was very good, plenty of fresh fruit and vegtables available at all times, if your not into the meats and fried stuff. The buffet restaurant also had a themed 'Mexican' night. Definately recommend this. Just a note for the men for the dinner meals. Long pants are required, jeans are OK, lots of men wore jeans. The wait staff at this resort was second to none, very friendly, and always right there if you need something. The room fridge restocked everyday. 24/7 room service included. We will for sure be coming back to Riu Palace again, and...
We enjoyed our stay very much! The beach was great and lots of activities were offered throughout the resort. The nightly entertainment was a treat! The staff was very friendly and the service was excellent. We were pleased with the variety of food choices at the buffet and the dinners at the restaurants were excellent. Can't wait to come back!
We loved the hotel and staff. The grounds were super and the location was great. Two problems with the Riu Palace. The A/C was not sufficient for the rooms. The coolest it was in my room was about 80F. Our party had 10 rooms, all were too darn hot. The second problem had to do with the dress code for the restaurants in the evening. Men were required to wear slacks however women could wear just about anything. Slacks would not be a problem, except it is too darn hot in august to dress up for a buffet dinner. Several of the outdoor restaurants were not air conditioned, so they were really hot. You could wear shorts to the non ac restaurants. It was too hot in those restaurants even in shorts. I did not cool off until I got in a cab going home.
We loved almost everything. The sevice, food, drinks, entertainment were great. The only thing that wasn't, is that we were to have a deluxe room with a resort view.Instead we got a room that construction and junk below our room. We were told there was no room available but they would tell us if one did. They never did.Later we found out the Hotel was only 60% full. I guess we should have complained. I would tell friends about this place and would go back again.... Besides the room placement very Happy with this place...
Location Bed was bad
Except for the issue of being booked in an unpreferred room type with two beds instead of a single (king or queen), all aspects of the hotel were wonderful. The hotel staff were so kind and always came by to ask if we needed anything. The tours arranged by the hotel were fun. The variety of food options was plentiful. The beach was clean and quiet since we were at the end of the hotel 'zone'. The hotel was within walking distance to shops on 5th. No taxi needed. I highly recommend this hotel for couples, not necessarily for families.
I had my wedding at this resort 10/27/12 and everything went great. We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite free of charge from the concierge room. The staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and all faced the ocean. The beach was beautiful and eventhough the resort was next to the pier where the ferry for Cozumel leaves the beach wasn't too busy. The only down side is the entrance of the resort doesn't look that impressive but everything else was.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this luxury hotel. The facilities and staff were amazing. We will definitely be going back!
Do not get junior suites located at the ground floors...smells bad..mold smell....
Good food and drinks to be an all-inclusive resort. Too big, very unpersonell. Felt like a small city rather then a hotel.
Please do not stay in room from 6xxx and 7xxx. I stayed in room 6424 for a night and it is not even qualify for 2 stars. It does not have iron or iron board, the safe is old and not work and the room is leaking when it rains. This room also does not have a bath tub, it only has the shower and water run out to the floor in the bathroom. I changed the room on the second night to 8000 building the the room is much much better. I also got a discount of $145 for might first night because of stay in the bad room. The pool by the beach is too small and very very crowded. The hotel staff did not give out the map and give out no information as where is the restaurant. We really did not know where to eat breakfast on the next day.
Really great hotel, expecially for the all inclusive!!! Great and kind personnel!!! Animation staff not very active. Too many families and couples...
The Mexican people, variety of activities, kids club & it's staff, the freshness of the food. The Asian restaurant was very good. The Mexican buffet was excellent. Two of the gourmet restaurants we're just ok. The meat in both the Steakhouse and the Brazilian was tough and that's what you go for. The beaches are sadly in need of repair. Tough for swimming.
Excellent family resort. A short half hour stroll from Playa del Carmen. Excellent staff who were always willing to help out. Very comfortable rooms and excellent food. We got an excellent rate as the beach was being rebuilt while we were there. Would like to see free internet access. There is quite a bit of pressure to attend the 'presentation' on the hotel's 'vacation package', which is a time share. Even though they promise it will take 90 minutes of your time, if you plan on going, be prepared to set aside a good part of your day.
We really enjoyed our stay. Pool, food, drinks, service, everything, was extremely delightful. An updated list & schedule for the restaurants is needed.
Very good value, management is hands on and very visible. The band on Friday night was fantasic! but they took a 45 mns break instead of 10 minutes, which resulted in people leaving. too bad. the staff has a very good attitude. The pool activities were very good. The original rooms we were assigned were at the very back of the resort, far from the main area (meeting point) and the beach, we asked to move closer. The Specialty Restaurants are not at all up to the level and expectation, a real disappointment, which was echoed by all the guests we interacted with, the all-day buffet restaurants were better, but need more variety. The check-in and check-out had long lines of people waiting, while the Concierge staff were doing nothing. Could the Concierges assist on check-in and check-out whenever necessary? Housekeeping did not clean our rooms on the 4th night. The cocktails were weak and diluted. The snorkling place did not allow us to have fins and said it was only for diving, its ridiculous!
We loved our room and the staff. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool and strolling along the beach. We enjoyed all the different animals and birds. Having food and drinks 27/7 was great. I can not complain when everything was great
Our second trip here and will return. Beautiful grounds, gorgeious beach, and all the staff is super. Can't say enough good things about the resort. Would highly recommend it to anyone Some friends have already gone and feel the same way. Great place for families to get together, with lots of acitivies for all ages. I prefer the Fantasia buffet to the gourment restaurants. Feel the service is superior and you can choose what you want. For cooking in the quantities they have to prepare is excellent. My daughter's birthday fell on one of our days there and they made a wonderful birthday cake for her and sang Las Mananitas.
The sargaso (algae) invading the beach and the ocean, Mosquitos .
The service and smiling staff were beyond compare! Fast efficient friendly. The food was so delicious and almost too beautiful to eat. Everything was exemplary Not one thing I didn't like.
Guest Services Received
Very clean and spacious accommodation. Hotel personnel is very friendly Very much focused on drinking alcohol rather than on eating. Food could be improved significantly. The served food does not match even much close to the so-called 'five star' image. The coffee served is what call in Holland 'slootwater'. Towels within the rooms are old.
the food the staff were very rude and poorly trained , a glass door fell on my husband and shattered and they could have not cared less.
pools were really nice and pretty empty. The food was pretty good Beach was not very nice and very busy. Hotel was very large
The drinks Everything else. Huge resort and no one helped us to our room or told us about the shuttle trolley. They got our room wrong TWICE...we had to chg rooms twice. The wait staff was always rushing us thru dinner... Which by the way had HORRIBLE FOOD! The buffet was ok ... Just ok. The bar always had a huge line yet only ONE bartender. All of the specialty restaurants were completely booked the day we got there and u can't reserve before u check in so we only had 9pm as a dinner option. We paid too much money for such mediocre service.
Food and Drinking The explosion that killed people and injured many more.
its a very nice resort, alot to see and do. you will do alot of walking the service was horrible. the cleaning staff would short our room towels cups ect. security was rude. wait staff in the restruants were un-expierenced,and rude. food took 2 hours to be served in three resturants and when ordering room service. i got the feeling they dis like americans.
The themes restaurants were very good, the water and eaches were also very nice. Lots of pools and always fairly easy to find spot with shade. I didn't like the whole reservation process for the themed restaurants, they would be full per the concierge and when you would show up the retaurants would be 1/2 empty. They required pants for guys for every themed restaurant which is a pain when it's 90 degrees at night. Everything is an upgrade and you even have to pay for internet. The whole resort is way too big and there limited elevators which is a real pain when you have small children with strollers
I liked the location, the pool and the room. Good service in the bar and restaurants I had to wait to much time for the carrito every time I need to go to the lobby and back to the room. No glasses in the room;
There was nothing that i like from this place!! To start.. No valet...! Its all inclusive but the alcohol is of the cheapest out there.. The buffet was ehh.. The staff at the front desk were idiots! There was no help around if you needed something. This place is huge and the only way to get around was with a trolly or walk! Annoying!! And the rooms were outdated! I stayed at the hyatt on playa del carmen.. And it was waaaaaaayyyy better!! They made reservations for me.. They acomidated me with everything.. There was always someone there for everything!
- Palmy - Grand hotel complex - Swim-up pool was nice - Nice shows at the bar - Minibar - NO WLAN - nervous staffs - to many antisocial gusts - Big price for people from EU as Canadian or US people - Room: Very BAD!!! I told them before "Honeymoon". The bathroom was not cleaned up! - Dirty ground, in room, bathroom, terrace - Patched mirror! - Hairs from prior hotel guests at the bed!! - Wine in bottle - 1 hour waited for an reserved Restaurant! - Many staffs couldn´t speak english or german! - Hole in the wall. Drop water to the ground! MEAL: - Gag me with a spoon! Never ever. - Canned fish :-)!!!!!???!!! - Expensive Shuttle bus to the city! No free shuttle!!!! Many 3 stars hotels in Playa del Carmen diposes this! - Hotel is very far from the city! - Hotel is in the near from the highway! - Cigarettes in hotel 8 $ ....in supermarket 3 $ ?!?!?!?!?!?
excellent facilities and excellent services.Good food.
Grounds were fairly nice. Room seemed clean. Pillows were horribly uncomfortable really almost comically bad pillows -- mak ing decent sleep impossible. My wake up call came an hour and a half early at 2 am! No hot water for shower. Ceiling super thin heard every footstep of upstairs neighbor. No view from room. Service was not great. Drinks weren't good and food was just okay.
Sax Player, Club Level Beach Beds, Landscaping, Italian Restauant, Not enough bars, swim up bar in bad shape, better daytime activities at pool, beach area in front of resort not great,
The most wonderful resort, outstanding position, excellent service and staff. Near and easy to visit Playa del Carmen by using the local transportation. Perfect vacation.
Overall the resort was very comfortable. We could have as much privacy or as much social interaction with others as we wanted, and the staff was extremely helpful with everything. The ocean itself was disgusting. The water in the Riviera Maya is supposed to be clear and beautiful, and typically it is, but where we stayed it was murky and full of trash (our ocean view included floating plastic ware). Thankfully, the resort had two pools. Next time around, however, we may opt for a hotel that isn't all inclusive but has a beach we can swim in.
