Pro: "From the April 12 Sydney to Seoul flight, the landing at Seoul was so smooth, so professionally done I hardly knew we had touched ground. That Captain has much to teach all pilots wanting a higher standard to their skills and the recognition of these standards. That caption is worth his/her weight in gold, giving Koran Air a gold standard. To compare, the landing at Osaka April 12, late at night, was done by an apprentice who has much to learn from your gold star captain.."
Kontra: "The same Sydney to Seoul flight, crossed the Qld Great Barrier Reef around 11am April 12. Having a window seat, so much detail of the Reef was visible which greatly surprised me. Beautiful colours galore. Having my face glued to the window at this time, I was unaware of cabin happenings. A male steward tapped me on the shoulder and said "Close your window blind". The beautiful scene outside my window was a first and being 76 old, likely not to happen again for me. Naturally, I ask the male steward "Why", He repeated 4 more times, "Close your window blind". Each time my reply was the same, "Why". On his last request, his voice raised, so in turn, my reply was raised. Sadly, he walked away silently, hands waving in disgust. Only then did I realise the cabin was completely black, no light seen. If at 11am, traditionally, this is a custom, a service to passengers on that particular flight, the male steward didn't say. He clearly expected to be obeyed and didn't expect a challenge. But also felt I didn't deserve a reason for his, what clearly was a demand. Would he have treated a male passenger differently. I flew economy because that is what my budget demands. Flying is not common for me but certainly a thrill that demands a window seat. I give much praise to all other staff, especially the captain landing that very craft at Seoul. At my age, years of experience allows me to be aware and notice. A beautifully presented mature female stewardess in economy, served me. When I requested a beer with the main meal, she said I will give you my favourite. I knew this was double talk for having only one brand beer left, that was a weak American beer. I watched this lovely lady many times being distracted by other staff with questions and 2 other passengers near me, asking for changes. She never blew it. And she passed me in the Sydney terminal, end of the day for her and believe it or not, she remembered me. She was not in such a hurry to get to her destination, that she gave time by turning her body, giving me a wide smile with eyes saying, Yes, I served you. You see, she's never off the job of customer service. I learned much, flying with Korean Air. Many thanks, Sally"

Kontra: "As I was about to board, I was denied carrying on my backpack with the few items I would need for the flight, so I was forced to put them into my carry-on suitcase which was loaded elsewhere, out of reach.. The insanity of it all - so glad the woman can count to two - is that I was forced by this angry person to carry my laptop and tablet onto the airplane in my hand, as she absolutely would not allow me to put them into my empty backpack, claiming this would constitute a third item. Of course, no one else was forced to take their computers out of their protective cases, only myself, because it was a backpack. I am 66 years old, travelling alone, and frankly am not the only international traveler who experiences unbelievable rudeness when in US airports."

Kontra: "I don't like the fact that KE charges the 3rd baggage (excess baggage) US$200 for only up to 23kgs. Anything beyond that is additional $100 for only up to 32kgs. another $100 beyond 32kgs. I will state for a fact that Cathay Pacific only charges US$150 for the 3rd baggage and is already up to 32kgs. Perhaps this is something KE would like to look into. In spite of Cathay Pacific's excess baggage rates, they have a smaller leg room in the economy class."

Also, due to my partner having to swap seats, I was sat on my own next to strangers. Kontra: "Ran out of options for dinner and could not eat the macaroni cheese they had on offer, so got 2 small packets of nuts instead...international flight running out of food options? Pretty slack. A part of the interior wall fell off onto my foot upon take off and I had to hold it in place for a while until a hostess came....doesn’t give you the best feeling when the plane starts breaking on take off. One of the male stewards was appalling towards a young mum I sat next too...too the extent of giving her dirty looks because she spilled a bit of water on the seat and then told her she had to pack everything away she was using, including the baby wipes! I stepped in and told him how this was not ok and all other staff members were helpful and he was making this Mum upset. He should not be working for such a people friendly reputable airline! Maybe Jetstar instead! Was appalled at the entire flight to be honest!"

Kontra: ". I was shocked to see social distancing was not implemented with no seats apart and I was in the middle of four seats. If the journey is as important as the destination, then it already failed the minute I was seated in a very intimate setting alongside strangers and seeing the economy class fully booked. The airline defended this by saying they have special economy seats but I complained that this is not equitable since the seats are limited and not everyone could afford an upgrade. Even if they could, the passengers would still be seated side by side and the total number of passengers aboard a tight and enclosed space or load factor is still very high. The airline’s policy was so inconsistent with the very rigid rules of the different government agencies upon disembarkation."

After the security check we were sent outside where buses were driving to claim our checked-in luggage to take it for another check just to drop it one minute later. Anywhere in the world if you board a flight with a stop-over you see your luggage at the final destination, not the case if you fly trough Manila."

And music tracks should be in a tracklist form with song information, not only 1 hour-long tracks of back to back music (with no info). Meals - Mains were ok, deserts were terrible in both of my flights. Snacks were also bad, a scone and beef and cheese sandwich. Very blend, white bread only and oily. We weren't served enough bevarages, so oily and high-carb foods made me very thursty. No water fountains, it'd be great to have some around since staff does not give enough beverage and I was forced to chuck my water before boarding the airplane (the water I bought in the airport after passport check!!!!!!!) It was extremely cold."

Kontra: "More often than not, Philippine Airlines has been our airline of choice because we found their rates to be fair and flights direct and easy. Despite the fact that the PAL terminal was pretty poor, and the food on board was never really decent, we remained loyal to PAL for quite a few years. On our way back to Melbourne from Manila on June 17, Saturday, Colin, Hendrix and I were awaiting boarding at gate 10 for flight PR 209. Having flown with PAL from Melbourne to Manila (as well as with another airline from Manila to Manchester and back), we understood that the usual procedure was to allow passengers with infants to board first. Due to the lack of order (there were no clear queues in sight), Colin decided to ask 3 different PAL personnel if there was, indeed, a priority queue for people travelling with infants. ALL THREE PERSONNEL ASSURED US THAT THEY WERE NOT YET BOARDING AND THAT WE WOULD BE CALLED UPON PRIOR TO THEM LETTING ANYONE ELSE ON THE PLANE. 2 minutes later, a PAL personnel appears with signage that reads certain row numbers and begins to call out to ALL PASSENGERS FOR BOARDING. Colin swiftly rushes to the front (me and baby in tow) and demands an explanation as to why we were told one thing but are watching them act upon something completely different. I wish I was joking when I tell you that the personnel just stared blankly at us and then carried on checking boarding passes. No apologies, no explanation offered. As soon as we boarded, Colin turned to the first flight steward he saw and asked for a complaint form and told this could ONLY be done online, to which Colin requested we be given the email/web address upon take off. The seats assigned to us were on the right most side of the aircraft, a window and a middle seat. As Colin was placing our bags in the overhead compartment, the steward called to Colin from across the aisle (past the 3 seats in the middle of the plane) to introduce the purser, Jolly Bello. Please note this was happening while people were also trying to get past and get to their seats -and Mr. bello called out across the aisle, "I heard you have a complaint??" to which Colin, baffled, replied "yes do you want to come over here so we aren’t shouting over these people?". Colin yet again told this purser what the complaint was about and was asked (verbatim) "so would you like to make a complaint against THEM?" Would the correct protocol not be to 1. Apologise for any confusion, miscommunication or poor service, 2. Take some responsibility and acknowledge the complaint and 3. Maybe come approach us AFTER TAKE OFF and not while everyone is trying to board the plane? We are no longer choosing Philippine Airlines."

Kontra: "Our flight was cancelled because of weather condition while we were at the boarding gate, they didn't care about compensations or consider not risking putting the passengers under last minute pressure, at least they should've notified us ahead of time, they automatically rolled us in the next flight, however, they didn't confirm if the next flight will be cancelled or not. In order to make sure I can catch my connecting flights, I booked another flight from Legazpi to Manila on a different airline, in addition, I had to pay the hotel booking cancellation fees in Manila, since these fees can only be waved if I cancelled 24hrs in advance. Moreover when I asked for my ticket refund, they made a big deal out of it and after a ruff struggle they agreed to refund me, but whatever the refund amount was, it barely covers anything of what I had to pay for a new ticket+ 1 extra night stay in Legazpi + hotel cancellation fees in Manila, I ended up paying 400USD in total while I only got around 50USD ticket refund from them, and of course, add to that the stress and hassle I went through in doing this!"
