I've put a formal suggestion before to Garuda several months ago; seems nobody care. Gate information is confusing, initially shown gate number at *domestic* terminal; then changed again twice. In the end they took you on a bus-ride to domestic gate; need to climb a couple of narrow stairs (good luck for older people); the escalator next to it is set for descending only while the ground crew doing nothing. Then your plane are on the 7th queue for another 20 minutes. Food is mediocre, in flight entertainment suddenly went blank and resetting for several minutes."

Kontra: "Our flight was delayed due to mechanical failure and didn't arrive from its destination: Taipei. We were not told about the possibility of our flight being cancelled as we arrived at check-in, we were allowed to check our bags first, issued boarding passes and *then* we were told to come back to check in counter in 3.5-4 hours. Our checked luggage had already been taken and with it, clean clothes, toiletries and other items that could have made the waiting more comfortable. After coffee and a snack we decided to check in to the capsule hotel at Narita. Minimum stay was one night at that hour of the day - for stays after 6pm. While I appreciated that Cathay got us out later that evening, the plane we flew was one of the oldest in the fleet: the seats did not recline at all so it was very uncomfortable. It was a late night flight but no one was offered pillows or blankets. (I did receive one upon request). We arrived in Hong Kong in the early hours of the next morning - 3 hours late - after the airport train had finished running so I paid for a taxi home which I normally would not need to do since I already had a train ticket. so my flight experience did cost me some extra money this trip."

However I don't see why we would have to ask as we booked a child's seat and you have to provide the age which she is 4. When onboard from SYD/HKG and HKG/LONDON, NO meal was available for our child except for what everyone else was eating. She is anaphylaxis to shellfish, she was given shrimp!!!!! I am sure if she was given a child's meal she would not have got this. We were then told we have to advise the airline 12 hours before we fly that we want a child's meal. I am sorry but when travelling we should not have to do this and nor have we ever had to do it on any other airline. Poor poor poor!!!!"

I had to cut short my trip to Istanbul due to a family issue- they couldn’t do enough to facilitate a flight home at short notice at a minimum cost and most importantly expedited my return with the minimum of hassle- thank you Turkish!"

Staff totally unprepared and untrained for such situations. We waited around for 6 hours before finding out on our own, that the flight was cancelled. The notice was not shown on the board. In all waited around at the airport for more than 10 hours before we were finally carted off to a small hotel near by at 1230am in the morning. Very little to no information given throughout the whole process, stranded with parched throats, no luggage, clean clothes or toothbrush."

Pilot Gary Emmanuel (Philippino) on HX692 - Aug 13 was a shock, being extremely rude in knocking my bathroom door fiercely for 20secs, i opened the door and asked why, he answered with his head up high "yes, i just knocked" and rolled his eyes..what?"

I asked the crew what was happening and reminded them this was a passenger flight not a cargo flight. How about the captain or someone doing something crazy like advising the cabin what is happening? Completely lost on the Chinese psyche it seems. The food was minimal, about a desert spoon of overcooked chicken, piles of rice and an unedible vegetable. I managed to get two thimble full glasses of wine."

Kontra: "I wish slippers were provided as our flight was in the middle of the night. The in-flight entertainment was a local TV program on a shared screen. I wore an eye mask so it didn't bother me too much, but it sucked that I couldn't just turn it off."

Kontra: "couldn't put bag in until 2.5 hours before flight i had a mobile phone power battery in my check in and they wouldn't let me leave it there had to put it in my carry on luggage - no big deal but was unusual."

Kontra: "45 minutes delayed before even pushing back from the terminal that they only told us once we were all on. Then the 'snack' they served was utterly horrendous. It was some sort of super sweet bread with a mystery meat in it."
Kontra: "flight being delayed for 5 hours is hardly acceptable. The official delayed certificate should be handed out to passengers in a more spacious and controlled area and not when people are alighting from the aircraft, everyone was stuck and unable to get past the crowd. With China flights, i am pretty certain the bunch of mainlanders didnt even know what the certificate was for, they just flocked over to get it because that is their mentality. Aircon should be turned on if people are stuck inside the airline waiting for take off. Reasons such as the aircon is broken is pathetic. If the captain knows the flight is bound to be delayed then let the crew know in advance so they can prepare for our in flight enjoyment better such as refreshments like water to say the very least."

Kontra: "I made friends with another passenger who when texting his number introduced himself as ‘XYZ, flight from hell’. That pretty much sums it up but here’s a laundry list of issues I faced on the trip 1. They landed us in a different airport in China and did not inform us on how to get to the other airport (PVG). After several failed attempts of catching a taxi that accepts Visa or US dollars, we finally got a bus that ferried us 2. They also did not automatically transfer the luggage, so I had to carry my two checked in bags to the other one and then stand in a 45 min queue to get them checked in again 3. Unhelpful ground staff 4. Delayed second flight. After a shitty eight hour long layover, we got another 2 5. Horrible food 6. No ear plugs are available in the plane 7. Not a single apology from the crew about the delay Also, anyone who doesn’t speak mandarin needs to understand that the crew in China is not well equipped to understand and help you, so be prepared to have the translation struggle"

Kontra: "The reception in Shanghai did not at first permit me to connect on my flight to Rome. If I missed that I have a flight on Monday 11am to Geneva that I would miss. My shortened layover in Shanghai due to Manila delay was still 45 minutes but Inwas being asked to transfer and get another flight through the transfer desk. Luckily After a few minutes in line at the transfer desk, was allowed back on my original flight. However and unfortunately, it was due to another 2 hour delay. arrived Rome 815++ pm ISO 6pm."
Pro: "I do not think the check in staff could have been any more useless, they wanted us to collect our luggage at every transfer, the plane was cramped, obviously made for people a lot shorter than my 6 ft, majority of the food was not edible for western people. I will not be using them again."

Kontra: "Arrived 2 hours before flight time (1315) but massive queue at bag drop and security. When got to security it was already 1230 and gate is closing in 25 minutes, I talked to people for a quicker access but to no avail. When I got through security, it was 1305 and the gate was closed. About another 12 passengers on the same flight could not board the same flight. When I talked to someone At the end another is arranged at 1625, only delayed until 1900 for boarding, and took off at 2000."

Kontra: "The flight had to turn around halfway back - due to "mechanical issues". Arrived home 4 hours late. English language ability of the crew is appalling. They generally don't speak any other than what is in their crew manual..."

Kontra: "Chinese regulation forbid the use of any cell phone during the entire flight... even in flight mode!!! This is utterly frustrating and annoying, especially when the flight is 15 hours long!!! Also food was meat only, no possibility to get fish or vegetarian"

Kontra: "I took 2 connecting flights back home, both flights were delayed by 2h and 1.5h respectively. No estimated new departure time was given, and the staff took very long (well after the supposed departure time) before they made an announcement for us to apologise for the delay. Service was mediocre. Half the time the crew was no where in sight, so it was difficult to ask them for something. When pressing the bell for service, they also took very long to respond. Once, when i had asked a steward for water, he was busy and told me to go to the back of the airplane to get it myself."
Pro: "I was lucky enough to travel on the 777-300 new config business. Pyjamas to boot, never had those in biz class before. Hats off to China Eastern, exceeded my expectations and beat the competition. Gutted my flight is with Lufthansa from Shanghai to Frankfurt. Will definitely be looking to fly with them again. Can't comment on economy as didn't get chance to look around."
Pro: "The seats were fine, considering that this was an overnight flight the blankets and pillows were a nice touch. They topped up my drinks a few times, and brought me water so I could take my medicine which was lovely."
Kontra: "Service could have been better - there were no vegetarian food options at all, and the crew were not very understanding. Often the flight attendants were brief and brisk and a little cold. But otherwise flight was fine."
Pro: "No personal entertainment devices - you can't use your phone to read a book or listen to music. back to good old fashion travelling. Make sure you prepare yourself with a book and junk food to cope"
Kontra: "1. The flight delay. 2. Horrible food. 3. In-flight entertainment set wasn't working. When we told the stewardess about it, it wasn't addressed till the flight was about to land. Which was by then, rather useless. They gave a a complimentary bottle of wine though."
Pro: "The entertainment was good. Food from SFO to Shanghai was better than Shanghai to Toronto."
Kontra: "On our flight from Shanghai to Toronto (September 27th, 2016 @ 12pm - flight MU207) was total madness. A lot of the passengers were out of control. I've never seen anything like it. The amount of people walking around were unbelievable. People were playing cards, doing jumping jacks and tai chi around the emergency exit. None of the flight attendants tried to control the crowd nor informed them that they shouldn't be doing that by the emergency door. We had to inform the flight attendants of what was going on while they were hanging it or doing whatever they were doing in their own area. If that wasn't stressful enough, the passenger behind me started punching my seat and shaking my headrest multiple times because he wasn't happy that I had my chair reclined. EVERYONE HAD THEIR CHAIR RECLINED. We called the flight attendant and she apologized for what the man had done instead of putting him in his place and him apologizing for what he did because not long after she left he did the same thing! I've never experienced such a horrible flight and I've been on over 20+ flights just this year. China Eastern really needs to train their flight attendants better and teach them how to manage passengers when they are out of control. I've never written any reviews before but this was just such a terrible experience that I needed to leave this review."

OPODO don't you check first before selling a PLANE ticket that there is actually going to be a plane. on my ticket it said plane to shanghai and then plane to Ningbo...a LIE, a total LIE...no plane at all, a scheduled train with no help to find out where it was ...shame on you!"
Kontra: "PATHETIC...got to check in and it was a train not a plane.not a special case , as the check in lad said 'we never fly to Ningbo?'and then they all laughed. 20 minutes later they realisd I would need the train as china eastern have a railway link. shame Opodo didn't know that when they sold me the ticket... no help WHATSOEVER from china eastern just pointed to train station and told to go there. no ticket , no check in nothing. There are 40 check in booths in shanghai train station and more passengers than i have ever seen anywhere, the heat was incredible and confusion everywhere...and I didn't have a clue where when how or anything.to finish the trip nicely I ended up 'obviously' in Ningbo train station rather than the airport which ids the other side of Ningbo. so no one there to meet me as they were all at the airport. when I bought the flight through opodo it said plane...not once did it say there would be a train. if so I would have gone a different route. utterly dreadful treatment"
